I remember Altered Beast being pretty fun with two people, as well as Forgotten Worlds. What are some of the best 2 player co-op games?

Any beat-em-up that has two player mode on it will work (And there are a lot of them).

Battletech also has a nift coop mode. One player steers while the other controls the guns, like Star Wars Arcade.

The Lost Vikings as well gets my thumbs up for two-playerin' co-op. There's a fine game.

Another one that hasn't been mentioned is Rolling Thunder 2.

hmm, they have potential, but both battletech and rt have some highly annoying control problems imo..and the former makes one player mad sooner or later :P didn't know lost vikings was 2p, gotta try that sometime!

any 1p games you'd like to see get a multiplay upgrade?

and completely off topic (though I thought it was a 2p game before playing it), has anyone beaten robocop vs. terminator? I kept shooting the last boss (I think, the robotic head) in the face with plasma for like half an hour (!) before giving up. I noticed most bosses in the game have a Lot of HP, but this is ridiculous :/

Ugh. I think Robocop vs. Terminator was pretty abusive overall. Damn hard game.

yeah, it's very annoying and not really worth the time. Kind of like playing a shooter with a giant ship and no speed powerups.. the trick is to get a good weapon and keep it by switching weapons when you die.

I think the best coop game on the Genesis is probably Devilish. My girl and I have had some fun in the past playing that one. One person controls one paddle and another controls the other...basically, one person will end up being responsible for keeping the ball from going off of the screen, and the other will be responsible for making it hit the object you want. Sort of an offense/defense situation, which changes after each level so that you don't even have to switch controllers to play the other position! :D

playing defense is kinda lame though, but at least it's different.

Great thread. Some games just must be played two. Me and my bro has killed many hours in front of Streets of Rage 2, Bare Knuckle 3 and now, Contra Hard Corps. Fighting with each other is so much fun.

Sonic 2, 3 & K are also good 2 player games, (especially if you want the emeralds in 2). An immortal Tails can really help out on the bosses. :)

Yu Yu Hakusho is brilliant if you can get four players and the right hardware.

Already mentioned, but Soldiers of Fortune/The Chaos Engine has always been my favourite two player co-op game on both the Amiga and the Genesis.

Other than that, My friends and I used to have a lot of fun with the co-op mode in General Chaos.

Rolling Thunder 2 was another good one.

Contra Hardcorps, forgotten worlds, and the ones already mentioned.
