Whatever could this be?

No clue. Thanks for the heads-up, though!

Just a random guess: Streets of Rage? (more wishful thinking than anything else.)

In case you're not in the mood to read it, Gamespot is placing their bets on Sonic.

Sonic would have to be redone, but how? I think the best direction for him since the Genny days is Sonic Rush on the DS, but I'm not sure what they could do with him on consoles.

Personally, I hope it's something like Quartet or Golden Axe. Thunderblade maybe?

Sonic? That doesn't make any sense. The way these announcements are phrased suggests an old franchise being brought back, and Sonic games still come out regularly.

Since they did Final Fight Streetwise, I might think it was Streets of Rage. But given the rest of the company's development background (all PC and PC-style games), I'm thinking it might be Obsidian or something? That would be pretty left-field for a franchise revival, though.

This is definitely not Sonic, which will certainly continue to be in Sonic Team's hands.

I'm with tim333. They aren't going to say Sonic is 'bringing back a classic franchise'. J_factor has a point, too. Sonic Team's not going to let it happen.

Just our luck it will be some crappy racing game.

I'm guessing Streets Of Rage.

At least I'm not in the minority.

They already brought back altered best, and shinobi recently.. PS already was done with PSO...

Perhaps, Eternal champions?

That seems reeeeally unlikely, but anything's possible.

You know what, I'd almost dig a SoR revival, even in 3D, but only in 3D if Capcom was behind it. Yeah, I know, a Sega/Capcom joint effort wouldn't be very feasible, but still, Capcom makes some of the best 3D action games, like DMC and Onimusha.

Golden Axe might be kind of cool, considering they need to make up for the atrocity of their sega ages remake. But it still seems like it wouldn't end up being anything great.

This should be a poll.

Hell, I'll make one up in a few minutes.

This should be Quartet, but most likely won't be.

Quartet is getting the Sega Ages treatment (by sega themselves thankfully).
So yeah, Quartet is out

Currently in development for Sega's new arcade hardware "Lindbergh" are VF5, Sonic, HotD, & Afterburner. It's been speculated that most if not all of these games will be on the Xbox 360, so the classic franchise might be Afterburner since's it's been awhile since that franchise had a game out.

Streets of Rage would be great. But I'd love to see a revival of the Shining Force series. Maybe even a new Phantasy Star, but I know that Sega has been keeping that going for awhile now.

It's gonna be Zoop.

j_factor

Even though Zoop was made by Viacom New Media, which never had any affiliation with Sega?

Uh, interesting idea. But I kind of think you may be wrong.
