I don't know, but I want an external device which will take the 32X's (and thusly the Genesis') RGB output and transcode it into S-video and/or component. But absolutely nobody can tell me how to do this or where to get a professionally built one. Maybe it's all just a bunch of BS.

I'm pretty sure that not all genesis are modable.

The Genesis model 2 has any of these chips:
CXA1145
KA2195D
CXA1645

The CXA chips can both be used for S-Video. The 1145 requires a bit more work than just caps and resistors.
the mod for the CXA1145 chip in a Genesis 2 can be foundat neogeousa.com

neogeousa.com isn't working, doesn't seem to be a valid web site. Can some one tell me where i can find directions for doing the S-Video mod for the genesis?

I have one of those converters from Japan that takes the RGB output and converts to S-Video. Very cool, and it also eliminates the vertical lines of the earlier Model 1 Genesis.

Segagamer I want one of those converters NOW! I demand you give yours to me. Or at least tell me where I can get one.

Also, having the 32X on top of a model 1 Genesis also gets rid of the vertical lines in composite mode.

You want a converter like this. Try any decent electronics or sound & video place, really. eBay is also a good bet.

That's awesome. How do I get my Genesis video into that thing? I need a cable built. If I got a SCART cable, would that hook into it? Also since that device is from the UK as are SCART cables, can I assume it will still output NTSC through the S-video?

how do you connect your genesis to this converter?

You need an scart cable. They are used commonly in europe, but not in North America.

The process would be something like:

Mega Drive -> SCART cable carrying RGB signal -> Converter -> S-Video signal cable -> TV set

So what's the American equivalent to SCART, then? Even the cheapest sets come with SCART as standard, simply because everything uses it - DVD & VCR decks, satellite TV boxes, the lot.

i.e. tell me what's on the back of your box :D

Everything here has either A/V, or S-video. Some of the more expensive devices have other connectors as well, but I've never seen anything with SCART

America hates SCART. :(

I would be all over this setup, but one thing that worries me is that not all SCART connectors are universal, ie some connectors may have the RGB as pins 1, 2, and 3 and other SCART connectors may have them as 5, 12, and 22 (or whatever). How do I know that I will be able to get things working using that PAL SCART cable and that PAL RGB to S-video converter linked to above on my NTSC TV set?

The same directions can be found at the following website

The guide is for a neo-geo, but it should the same concept should apply for a Genesis

Well I went ahead and ordered the 32X SCART RGB cable as well as a SCART RGB to YUV (component) video converter. I should be in business with video quality that is better than s-video from my Genesis, Sega CD AND 32X! Now all I have to do is wait and wait and wait until the junk gets here since nobody in the US sells SCART stuff. :(

I've spent the last 17 or so years playing my Genesis with its crappy composite. I'm ready for an upgrade!
