It occurs in my Wiz 'n Liz and Alisia Dragoon carts - bars of color onscreen. (The initial story intro in Dragoon, and the entire game in Wiz 'n Liz.) I've cleaned the carts over and over, but nothing works. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there no way to fix it?

Some games, for some bizarre reason, like to COLOR the overscan area of the picture. This makes it über noticable if your TV shows any overscan. Normally it is black and not very noticable. Of course t could be possible that those games have a larger overscan area, but I don't see why.

No, there's nothing you can do other than trying to play on a different TV.

I have tried it on both of my televisions (27" CRT), and I get it in both places. Is there an option in the televisions that I can use to turn it off? Or will maybe a different color setting help?

Nope. It's just the annoying way they made the games. It would be even worse if you played it on an LCD TV since they have zero overscan. A lot of Sega Master System games can suffer from this as well.

Wait--- Let me get your story straight---
Are you saying bars of color around the edges of the screen, or vertical bars of rainbow-ey color throughout the picture? If the latter, the only cures I know of is to run everything through the 32X or hook the thing up to an RGB monitor.

I'm getting the vertical bars in the background when I play Revenge of Shinobi, 'tis very annoying..

I actually have both problems. Most of my games have bars of color on the sides, and then some games have the rainbow-y effect.

You say a 32x or a RGB will fix the latter...will a M1?

The model 1 is the version most notorious for the rainbow vertical bars I think. A 32X will fix that if it is connected properly.

Here is another example. I used my crappy digital camera for this.

could it be that the connections on the M1's are just crappy enough to produce that because i have something very similar but its got at a vertical/horizontal slant and it moves across the screen, sometimes it will go to black and white and do it and then back to color, sometimes i dont have any problems besides the grainyness.

Sounds like your connection is messed up. I wouldn't attribute that to the model 1 at all, as people would bitch up a storm if they commonly did that.

yeah that's definitely a wire issue. I recently had a problem with that.. Sometimes the white lettering would turn pink/red or blue on any white text that would appear.

The connect needs to be checked.

As for the bars on the Genesis 1, I've had that exact same problem even with the Japanese Megadrive 1. Yet my US Genesis 1 never gave me that kind of problem.

Rarely have I seen these issues from a Genesis 2 or 3

If whitelettering is turning pink or green or blue, I'd be more apt to blame the TV itself. All of the colors are smashed into one signal in the composite cable (assuming that's how you have it hooked up) and it would be impossible for the colors to be separated again. I say try a different TV with the same cables and see what happens. Is there a switcher between your TV and the Genesis? That could be the problem as well.

but if its that problem with just the bars apearing onscreen and colouring with every part of the screen or something, then you can mod youre genesisi with a switch,on the back theres a little smal hole,if you open youre genesisi youlle get a pn1 pn2 and pn3 conection or somethin, dunno for sure, that where you can solder a switch for this problem, search the internet and youle find it.
