Ignoring 'shit' for freedom of speech purposes is fine and dandy, but this isn't a democracy. Is a video game forum. Off topic or not, you don't perpetually insult people with inane lies & insinuations, only to cry foul over 'Name calling' or other peoples perceived lack of input in the great machine of rhetoric.

To clarify further, There is no 'battle of wits', there is no 'chess game on creatively insulting one another' being played. Only one narrowly focused obscure ego with a probability complex, believing he is helping the greater good by pointing out random occurrences as if they were conspiracy. So locked up in his apparent 'Logic' that anybody who confronts him for his insult is branded 'an emotional wreck'.

Be it a legit sociopath or idiot-looking-for-kicks, I say the ends justify the means in the same course of action,

I would welcome logically sound finger pointing, as opposed to baseless insinuations and insults at every response.

I think this thread is inane though, polls accomplish nothing but contempt at the notion of publicly drawing the lines, and an attempt to marginalize the mods into weighing judgment when they're probably happier not worrying about it at all.

For those without a short-term memory, reading Edge's posts in The Politics thread, while 'all fun and games' from time to time on his behalf, are for the most part, ignorant. It's not always 'what' he's saying...'arguably bullshit for the most part between extremely ignorant insults.', It's 'How' he says it most of the time.

I concede that most participants would rather argue with him, or ignore him at this point, rather than 'Report' his posts, since individually they stand out of context of the big picture that is his insulting persona.

If a Mod combed through that thread, they would see it, I wouldn't ask anybody to subject themselves to that though. Which is why I wouldn't put this to a poll or new thread.

I agree, I'm tolerant of bullshit and don't feel a mob mentality should be brought upon him, this is why I've given up participating in his arguments other than to point out his hypocrisy when it's blatantly obvious within his rhetoric. I am a mod on several sites myself, and while I don't usually ban people and much less for their opinions, TheEdge does represent a special case. If someone would post links to porn sites and nothing but porn sites, he would be banned. If someone would post links to warez sites and nothing but warez sites he would be banned as well. TheEdge posts links to some pretty extreme propaganda sites and nothing but links to sites like these. If he doesn't post the links, he posts the articles without mentioning the source (which is even worse). - Now, I understand that this falls under free speech, but it certainly isn't a pleasent thing to tolerate. Suddenly, porn and warez spam doesn't seem so bad anymore...

Regarding you people's criticism towards this thread: One thing I did achieve is that we're talking about this whole thing outside of the politics thread. That at least is something.

Well, I disagree with Edge on most everything he's posted, but I still voted not to ban him. I don't believe in banning except in extreme cases and even when he has resorted to name calling (and he's not the only one) it's not a constant barrage or outright harassment.

I disagree with Rowdy Rodimus' assessment, however. The majority of us who disagree with Edge on a regular basis don't do it on the basis of his suspected love of freedom, but on his consistently condascending tone and manner and complete lack of willingness to consider anything other than the opinions he has brought to any discussion.

He doesn't "discuss", he lectures. And I could point to many seperate occasions in the Political thread where no one has posted for a period of time, possibly a whole day, and Edge posts something to (these are his words) "get things going again". Does this sound like someone who would give up if he is ignored?

Just as in real life, you have to learn to be around people you don't like or agree with. And also as in real life, when you're in public, you can't just wish away everyone that rubs you the wrong way. And to be honest, I've read a hell of a lot worse on OCR, than anything I saw in that thread.

I guess that's where we differ. Banning someone who isn't liked by a group of posters (regardless of why they're not liked) isn't the way to run a site that's open to the public. If they cross lines set forth by site rules, then they get whatever they have coming by the mods and admins (be it a warning, a temp ban, or a perma one). But when posters start taking it upon themselves to dictate who can and can't stay instead of mods/admins, and start trying to drum up support to get rid of whomever their target is... well, that's just as detrimental to the site and forums. More so to me, actually.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on this. It's not my site, and I know I'm just a newbie here. My goal isn't to put anyone's viewpoint down, or to belittle their opinions on this matter. But I've seen mob mentality in action on other sites, and it's not a good thing. I'd hate to see it creep into what thus far, has come across as a good site.

While Edge's opinions may be extreme or odd, please keep in mind that he DOES like apple pie and freedom. That is enough for me. If he also liked mom and baseball then we'd probably make him a mod. But still, use the IGNORE feature. That way you won't be tempted to egg him on by continuously replying to him. He'll get bored and will probably stop posting that kind of stuff. Try it!

Sadly, I don't like Mom and Baseball as much as Pies and Freedom. I will try harder though.

Somehow, I have to agree with you there. The concept of Streets Of Rage 2 was copied from Final Fight I think but Streets Of Rage 3 got a new concept that were not copied from any other beat em' up. The first game was just a simple Beat em' up, and it's a classic game too.
