Everyone has their own taste in games, but in my opinion, it's worth $20-ish, but not worth getting a 32X for by itself.
I did not find that game really interesting, it looks nice but that's all...

Very unique game and nice to have for collecting purposes, but I could never really get into playing it, though I'm a huge fan of hummingbird-based shmups in general.

Well, it is the best hummingbird-based shooter for the 32x.

I also have it coming in the mail to play for the first time. From what I understand, it's kinda like Ecco. Wasn't the same team (from Budapest?) responsible for it?

Yeah, Novotrade made the 16-bit Ecco games, and this.

It is very odd like Ecco, though not quite as creative on the gameplay front. It's kind of like a cross between Ecco and Subterrania or something along those lines. Definitely worth checking out, but don't expect the gameplay to grip you too terribly much.

The thing that most resembles Ecco in Kolibri, aside from the fact that they were made by the same people, is the couple of seemingly impossible stages that come by halfway into the game.
There's one in Kolibri (the one with that deadly bridge) that kept me wondering if I had un-learned how to play a game or if I was just dumb not to see where I should go.
I hope you figure it out easily when you get there!
PS. Despite the lack of a score and the annoying password feature, I think Kolibri is a gorgeous game, and rather decent gameplaywise.

Kolibri is a great looking game and shows off some of the 32x's sprite pushing power. However, I didn't find it particularly fun. To answer the original poster's question, it is probably worth $25 if you got it complete in box. Not sure if you will have $25 worth of fun though.

Kolibri is my favorite 32X game (barely edged out Knuckles Chaotix, After Burner, and Virtua Racing), this is just my personal opinion though, as I totally enjoyed the rather eccentric touch of Ecco-meets-shmup concept. The items and enemies were intriguing, the graphics were a lot of fun to examine, and I think the game is certainly long enough for a $20 purchase.
Hope you enjoy it!
Kolibri made me wish the 32x had a proper 2d shmup - a bit like how Chaotix made me wish it had a proper Sonic game. I think perhaps that says more about my way of thinking, though...
It is a very pretty game, and quite fun for a while, but nothing in the couple of plays I gave it really made me want to persevere with the game.

got a US copy of the game the other day boxed mint complete for £18, turns out the NTSC version works in the PAL 32x with no mods required which i was happy about. a PAL copy of Kolibri went for over £120 on ebay the other day... what a waste of money when the US versions works.
not played it much yet but its a cool looking game its nice to have in my 32x collection :)
