Already a favorite of computer gamers, Starflight soared onto the Genesis and promptly left its stamp as one of the best games ever made for the console. True, such comments get tossed around quite a bit, but in this case, it's more than warranted. The sheer level of freedom and sense of exploration Starflight provided was enough to keep you occupied literally for weeks. The delicate balance between action and simulation was never broken, and it was always a blast. But hey, I'm ranting! Read our full review (http://www.sega-16.com/Review-%20Starflight.htm) and see for yourself why you simply must have this game in your library.

Don't really remember it. Might be the symptom of the 8 year old mind -- anything that doesn't look "cool" isn't going to make much of an impression, and I generally avoided any computer or technical games like the plague at that age.

I'd never even heard of Starflight until after the fact, when I was ranting about Star Control to someone and he asked if I had played Starflight.

Really great game, though.

I'm having a blast with it. I just beat it, and am now exploring space, tracking wormholes, and just blowing up aliens. :)

I'm with you guys. This one is completely new to me. Looks like a riot, though.

I saw this loose at my local flea market and bought it for 10 bucks together with rocky (sms) and Sega Saturn 3-pack w/ daytona usa, virtua cop, and virtua fighter 2.

Awesome! You won't be sorry. You can easily lose hours on end in Starflight without even realizing it.

The thing I loved about Starflight was the fact that you could explore
various planets and mine for misc. minerals and natural resources. There
was this incredible feeling of piracy that you'd feel when sweeping down
onto a planet and finding gold and other valuables free of charge!! Any
true Starflight addict would have to admit that at times, our greed would
get the best of us when we'd attempt to land on a planet that would destroy
our vehicle upon landing. I remember attempting a landing thinking.. "I can land this.. the gravity force might be tough.. but I can do it..and.. this planet is probably loaded with riches!!" A true classic. I've just picked it up on Ebay for the second time ( yes.. I was one of those people that sold all my original genesis stuff only to chase it all back down on ebay some 13 years later at pretty much the same or higher cost ) , complete and in great shape. Get this game if you can!

The link to the review from the first post doesn't work (there is a space in it).

This was an awesome game. It looked terrible but the gameplay was so deep it more than made up for it. I was always under the impression this game was somehow related to Star Control. Did I just make that up?

They're not technically related. Starflight was made by Binary Systems and published for the Genesis by EA. Star Control was done by Accolade.

A lot of people say that the Star Control was inspired by Space War and Star Control II was later inspired by Starflight but I don't really know for sure what the verdict is on the relationship between Starflight and Star Control.

Anyway, just incase anyone wondered my Starflight ship was called the ISS Genesis :p . Ain't I original?
