I know I'm addicited to this game!
I was playing Super Shinobi on the Sega Smash Pack for the PC, aka Revenge of Shinobi And thanks to the no death code I got far enough to realize that the version used in the game is the early revision, because there is the no marvel copyright screen and it has both Batman and Spiderman!
Didn't the Japanese version have a no death option? I think the Smash Pack for the PC was released in Japan and only one game was different (Sonic instead of Sonic Spinball) So maybe the changed version was only for oversea markets? (Even the Japanese version of the Sega Arcade collection for the Sega CD is the same as the european and american versions, ie Bare Kunckle is Streets of Rage, etc)
All I remember about the Smash Pack really is how bad the music and sound were. Sega couldn't even correctly emulate their own games. :(

This is the PC version, not the Dreamcast one.
I also noticed a few other errors, maybe they used a different version for this compltation.
Ah, I wasn't aware that the PC version was any different. Interesting! I know there were various SPs released on computer, so I might have to check those out.

Steve Snake emulated this, actually. The Smash Pack is a glorified KGen. (I think?)

You think correctly.
I remember volume 2, and how it had Shining Force 1, which was already in volume 1. Does anyone put any remote amount of thought into what games are included on these compilations? Yeesh.

Volume one did not have Shining Force. It had PS2.

It had both.
Vol. 1: Revenge of Shinobi, Columns, Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage 2, Vectorman, Golden Axe, Wrestle War, Altered Beast, Virtua Cop 2, Sega Swirl, Shining Force, Phantasy Star II.
Vol. 2: Sonic 2, Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon, Shining Force, Flicky, Vectorman 2, Sega Swirl, Super Hang On.

I'm talking about the PC version, the PC version of the first one has these games:
Super Shinobi (messed up version of Revenge of Shinobi, it has some differences)
Phantasy Star 2
Vectorman
Columns
Outrun
Altered Beast
Sonic Spinball.
The PC version is nothing, and I mean nothing like the Dreamcast version, ok? It doesn't have ass-raped sound, or runs on a dreamcast. It's just Kgen98 ported to Win32 with a few bugs fixed.
I think they reprogrammed Super Shinobi for the Sega Smash Pack on the PC, because shurkens is spelt differently in the menu, the sound select is messed up, there is a no death option, and batman is in the game. What I just said applies to the PC version, not the assraped DC version.
I'm tired of Sega following the Namco "Book of Compilations." I swear to God, how many more times do we need to see ports of Columns, Revenge of Shinobi, and VectorMan?

Ah, I didn't realize the two different versions had different lineups. My bad.
