40 times faster than 16-bit games.:wtf:
Its not even 40 times faster than the SNES. Its pretty much 2.5 times faster than the Genesis at ideal conditions (not reading the ROM).
A little funny, though. :D

Thanks for the link! I got this very eye poppin' image of a Chun-Li statue on the home page:

They're counting both processors... which can theoretically give you twice the power of one, but is more usually only 30% more power as the second CPU is rarely utilized completely. Now, as to 20X faster, the 68000 is rated at 1 MIPS at 8 MHz. The 68000 in the Genesis runs at 7.67 MHz, so 1 MIPS is generous. The SH2 is rated at 25 MIPS at 28 MHz, so at 23 MHz, it's about 20 MIPS. So from a theoretical point of view, the 32X COULD BE as much as 40X as faster, but is probably closer to 26X as fast. Now whether the programmer can utilize that speed effectively is yet another issue altogether.
From my work on Wolf32X, I can safely say the 32X is FAR faster than just 2.5X. If most 32X games don't show that speed, that's their problem, not the 32X's. :D SEGA never gave developers a chance to really push the 32X... except maybe for Virtua Fighting or Virtua Racing. Probably another year and most games would have been at that level, with newer SEGA games being one level beyond that.

Looks like tripod blocked it, and yeah, that photo's a bit too risque for this site.

Oh yeah, I forgot about MIPS over mHz. Now it makes more sense. :p

Man, anyone got any info on that "Tempo" game? I've never heard of it so I assume it was never completed/released, but that screenshot makes it look pretty cool.

Tempo was definitley released. It's one of the more common games for the 32x.

Yeah, that's also why the SNES CPU isn't nearly as slow as people imagine when they see the CPU clock rates. The SNES may have a much slower clock, but the cpu doesn't use nearly as many cycles per instruction as the 68000. Your typical "fast" opcode on the 68000 takes 4 or 6 cycles. A "slow" opcode (not counting multiply or divide) can take a couple dozen clock cycles. Divide can take more than a hundred (174 worst case). Typical instructions generally take between 8 and 16 cycles. Good programming on the Genesis can mean counting cycles and writing hand-tuned assembly to keep the clock cycles down.

It's been shown here before I believe right around when it first came out. The policy here is no nudity, weather it be animated or real. Lingerie is fair game. Hence why Rusty is still around.

Ah, didn't know that. Thanks for informing me of that. Thought it was nudity and close to.

It's better than average (http://www.sega-16.com/review_page.php?id=40&title=Tempo).

Huh, well if I ever rethink my "no 32X" rule I'll look into it. Animation seems awful nice at least.

I use to have that advertisement in one of my old Game Informer magazines. Good times in gaming those were.

Tempo has almost SNES quality graphics but it's kind of a lame platformer.
And that Chun-Li statue is one of those unofficial garage kits that flood out of Asia. Capcom would never officially license that thing.

Wow.. Tempo was developed by Red!? That's really surprising considering this is the 32x we're talking about. Hah - the game is that much cooler. I looked at the game in the emulator, only the very far background layer is 32x. The sprites and foreground are Genesis. Still, a cool little game. If I see this game in the wild, gonna have to pick it up.

There's a remake/sequel/update for Saturn called Super Tempo (for those that like me still semi-boycott the 32x).
- I wish the same could be said about Knuckles Chaotix.

I might look into that, thanks. I boycott the 32X myself.
