Isn't that here on this sight somewhere? I know I've seen it fairly recently.

that was supposedly scenes from some video game that was in development for the 32x from the guy who WAS gonna do the "2000 leagues under the sea" game for SegaCD... supposedly.

I love the monoliths, as if it is marketing theme of a new era to come... heh, yeah new era my ass. It goes to show though that SoA knew something that SoJ didn't know... 3D was the way of the future and that is where they started, where as SoJ started with the best 2D platform and then added 3D capabilities.

The 3D at the start seemed comparable to Jaguar stuff from the same era. Impressive, yet shocking when one considers how that power was squandered.
It looks like Scavenger built the foundation of their engine for Amok with ideas they explorered in the second half of that tech demo, the seemingly on-foot outdoor stuff.

Thumbs up to that cool video.

Erick Quakenbush. He was doing Virtua Hamster too.

I've been trying to contact him forever, but he never answers my emails. :(

And someone needs to get me a copy of that video!

Dude I know I saw that somewhere recently. Downloadable! Damn I wish I could remember where! I wish I had the actual videotape (or better yet, the cartridge) and then you could have an exclusive high-res version running at 60fps.

EDIT: Oh wait it is on my hard drive in AVI from! 32MB. I will upload it and PM you the link to grab it, as your e-mail probably can't handle a file that size.

Joe, does your version of the video have that span of empty space for the final three minutes? That was my favourite part. Let me hear an awwwwwwyeahhhh for poor editing.

Your FTP is slow and keeps turning off the connection. Check ya PMs. It'll be on Sega-16 soon I'm sure.

Drixxel, my version is 5 minutes long and has video for 99% of it. There is a small amount of black at the beginning and end, but not much.

You are da man Joe! Thanks!

Amok, there's a name I haven't heard in a while. It does look like the Amok engine, at the last part particularly.

Amok was planned for the 32X, but it only saw release on the Saturn and PC. I used to own the PC version, a pretty crappy game, imo.

Hmm. Add anything else (like anything other than terrain :P) and the framerate will plummet. It's very good, but 'tech demo' good - not good enough to support proper gameplay.

Were they to reduce the size of the environments and simplify the environment geometry, and probably stick with flat shading, the first part of that tech demo could have surely been put to use in something worthwhile with a decent framerate. Maybe not a balls-out action game with polygonal enemies galore, but hey, don't underestimate programmer creativity.

Anyone have any idea what it was like to develop for the 32x?

I'm sure it was very hard, maybe just as hard as the Saturn.

I wish homebrewers could take more advantage of it, as there is a LOT of potentional for the 32X. Accurate ports of Abuse, Wolfenstin 3D/Rise of the Triad and maybe a few other PC classics. Oh yeah!

I'd love to have Rise of the Triad on the 32X. Playing it on the PC is a mess, and if a half-assed port of Doom is on the 32X can happen, it proves a simple game like this could have good port. If there was a 32XCD version of ROTT where all you did was add the datafiles and burn it'd never leave my console.

32X Rise of the Triad.. tighten it up, and that could be very neat. I've only ever played the shareware of that game.. cool game, but sloppy.

There are definately some cool ports that could have been handled with honour on the 32X. Still, I'd be more interested in original 32X developments.. something to really push the hardware.

Oh yeah, Abuse would have been sweet too, but the control would be a bit to iffy, imo.

Wow.... if only they had the releases with all their options... many FPS, racing, RPG possibilities!!!

An Action RPG like Beyond Oasis would've rocked. (Then again, so would a graphically insane vert shooter.) There was so much potential for the 32X, but it just didn't live long enough.
