Making a thread about this since I couldnt find an old one.

I just noticed that there are 2 official Turrican Games for the C64: Turrican 1 and 2: the Final Fight.

But there is also a Turrican 3, released in 2004. Anyone know more about this game?

All I know is it was a homebrew port made by C64 scene veterans.

It's just a homebrew downport of the Amiga game.

Turrican 3 was basically Mega Turrican
which consequently marked Manfred Trenz's departure from the franchise.

He apparently prefered 8-bit machines

I just want to know why Super Turrican 2 for the SNES is so damned expensive and rare.

An extremely short production run is the plight of Super Turrican 2, as I understand it. It was even considered unreleased by either GamePro or EGM (can't recall which) in an remarkably poorly-researched article regarding the most tragically unreleased games.

Still, if you're lucky, David. J, you'll pull a j_factor and find a $15 copy lounging about the shelves of EB Games.

At that same EB about a year ago, I got Streets of Rage 3 complete for $6.99. It must be the best EB in the world.

Must be, since all EBs that I know of don't dare carry any 16-bit stuff. Neither does Gamestop.

The one in my town was selling a loose SNES 2 for $29.99, that's all they ever had for retro stuff.

I know of at least one Gamestop in PA that still sells Genesis and SNES Games though the selection is limitted and never changes. What they do have they have in bulk however.

I must have counted at least fifteen copies of Super Street Fighter II alone.

One of the two EB's where I live recently brought in a steaming heap of loose Genesis and SNES sports games. At first, it looked like a potentially-awesome random assortment of cart-only games, but the more I flipped through them, the more my soul died. The spirit can only survive so many images of a smilin' John Madden...

Anyways, Turrican.

As they're games well-suited for comparison, which do you prefer: Mega Turrican, or Super Turrican?

Super Turrican felt like it was all over the place, like they didn't know what to do with it. ST2 was a colossal improvement, and probably the best in the series too.

The Turrican series was reveered for its Metroid-esque level design and memorable music by Chris Hullsbeck.

Turrican 2 is said to be the best one, as it maintains the best design nuances that made the original so popular. Figure in some well designed shmup stages and you have the fan favorite.

Turrican 3/Mega Turrican was the begining of the end for the larger exploration based levels. While there was still plenty of hidden items, it was not nearly up to the same scale. Super Turrican 2 was panned for ditching series tradition and suddenly emphasising Mode7 vehicle levels.

But as it is, I haven't played any outside of Turrican and Mega Turrican.
The others are awful hard to come by
