Geez, you people sure do have a lot of Genny hardware!

I have:

- modded model 2
- model 2 Sega CD
- 32X
- Menacer
- stock 3-button pad
- six button pad
- Game Genie
- Sega cleaning kit
- Sega CD back up cart

Joe Redifer

My Sega CD back up cart stopped saving after it was about 16 months old! I obviously got a lemon. My Saturn carts still work fine.

Melf, did you mod your Genesis 2 for region switching? I threw in a couple of switches on my Saturn (or you could do 1 4 pull double throw switch) and I hear doing it for the Genesis is basically the same thing.

I also forgot to add that I have a Game Genie.

David J.

I got a Sega CD and Saturn backup cart in the same day for $2.99 a piece. I think it was my best deal ever. Both where, and are in good condition and save fine.

Melf, did you mod your Genesis 2 for region switching? I threw in a couple of switches on my Saturn (or you could do 1 4 pull double throw switch) and I hear doing it for the Genesis is basically the same thing.

Yep, I have two switches that allow me to flip between U.S., PAL, and Japanese regions. It's right next to my s-video output. :D

Joe Redifer

I probably wouldn't mod mine for PAL since I don't think they have any desirable exclusives, do they?

There are a couple, like Zero Wing, Super Fantasy Zone, Alien Soldier, and Turbo Outrun; all in English. There are some Europe-only games too, like Body Count.

And there's always the Smurfs!!

Just the sexiest console design ever, the Model 2. For years, back in the 90s, I thought that was actually the first model.

Oh, and a broken Sega CD -- I've owned it for over a year now and I still haven't been able to play Silpheed, eh...

I have a PAL Megadrive II and Mega CD II. The MD is running RGB Scart and is switched for multiregion with a widened cart slot. I have a CD Plus cart to play NTSC-J/U CD games and it's working great so far.

There's also a couple of Mk.1 MDs in the cupboard, both switched.

I have been told that the CD Plus cart also works with the Multimega and Wondermega? If so, a system upgrade may happen one day...

I'll probs be able to sort out some proper pictures in a couple of weeks but if people really are interested I do have the auction pages and even the excel file if people really wanna see.

complete model 2 battleship formation
Absolutely mint High Definition Model 1 with RF (for now)

all systems/add ons meticulously hand cleaned inside and out to look damn near perfect. I just got the High Definition model 1 in yesterday, I need to take some pics, I've never seen a Genesis in this good of condition, EVER. I almost think they bought a new one off of eBay and sold it the next day, its that good.

Let's see:

Consoles:

Working:

-3 Genesis 1s, 1 High Definition Graphics non-TMSS(doesn't have High Definition Graphics top as the one it came with was badly damaged, contains a VA3 motherboard), 1 region/S-Video modded non-High Definition Graphics(contains a VA6 motherboard), 1 audio-modded non-High Definition Graphics(contains a VA7 motherboard and has a High Definition Graphics top... oh, crap)

-Sega CD Model 2(works perfectly)

-Sega 32X(have 2 of these, one is being used to make a Sega Neptune)

-5 Genesis 2s, 1 audio-modded(contains a VA1 motherboard), 3 stock(contain VA1, VA1.8 and VA2 motherboards), 1 being made into a Sega Neptune(contains a VA4 motherboard)

Dead:

-3 Genesis 1s, 2 are non-High Definition Graphics systems(contain VA5, VA6 and VA7 motherboards, all given dead)

-3 Genesis 2s(2 contain VA1.8 motherboards, the other a VA3)

-1 Genesis 3(this one really pissed me off while I was trying to restore Virtua Racing compatibility, so it deserved to die. Has a VA2 motherboard)

Cloned:

-Gen-X Dual Station Video Game System(currently needs a new audio mixing circuit on the Genesis side, as the old one crapped out while finding the FM and PSG outputs)

As for accessories:

-5 power supplies(2 Genesis 1 power supplies, 2 Genesis 2 power supplies and 1 Genesis 3 power supply)

-Unknown number of 3-button controllers

-4 6-button controllers(2 of them are those Majesco sold with the Genesis 3)

-Genesis 2 RF unit, Genesis 2 Mono/Stereo A/V cables

-Homemade Power Base Converter(does not contain a Card slot)

Does the Miracle Piano use the YM2612 ? (the Mega Drive sound chip ?)

To my knowledge the miracle piano was a complete standalone unit with all its own components that linked to the Mega Drive via a cable. Since they also produced Mac,IBM,Snes versions as well I think it was simply the cable and carts that were different with the actual pianos all being the same unit.

I do not think it uses the YM2612 chip to be honest with you as it was a third party peripheral produced outside the control of Sega.

I could be wrong and maybe someone else here can answer.

Hmm...come to think of it the piano is more of an accessory than a system but it is just so big!!

Lets see, I don't have any Genesis hardware apart from 4 games, but I have plenty of Mega Drive stuff.

I have 4 Mega Drive II's, all of them work perfectly. They come from various years, two of them have great (By Mega Drive standards) RF and Composite outputs, the others are standard. I have a Composite cable, I do plan to get a SCART cable and a SCART to Component adaptor though. I have two perfectly working offical 6 button control pads (Best, D-pads, ever), and several other 3rd party pads (Which are crappy). I also have a model 2 Sega CD drive of which I plan to fit in a double A battery caddy so it is easy to replace batteries (I have everything but the soldiering iron, and the experience needed in soldiering).

Otherwise, the other Mega Drive related hardware I own is all Master System stuff (I have 3 Master Systems for the record).

1x Multi-Mega. I've widened the cart slot, added a 50/60hz switch and replaced the main board with a CDX m/b so that the Mega-CD can boot in 60hz. A Mega Cart tops it off for almost full compatibility. I say almost because I still haven't bothered wiring the switch to do 50hz/Jp and 60hz/En, and I need to in order to play my Yu Yu Hakusho cart. Oh yeah, I have a custom made RGB SCART cable too. I also have an SMS converter but it's the nice, neat cartridge sized one and any of the ugly official converters.

And that's it!

1x Standard RF adaptor cable
2x Official Sega 3-button controller (red start button)
2x Official Sega 6-button controller (red start button)

I'm keeping this really plain and simple. No third-party controllers, no modifications, just the Mega Drive II in its purest form as I had it 15 years ago. I might consider adding a Mega CD add-on at some point, but for now this is it.

Mind if I ask what you use the 3rd one for? I find that to be near unusable if you play on playing Sega-CD, 32x, or Virtua Racing. It's also more or less the "Core system" of Core systems.

2x Nomad (US)
4x Dreamcast (1x US, 3x EU)
2x Oval button Saturn (EU)

I'm not going to list accessories... I can say there's high consistency of transparent Dreamcast controllers :P

I have two Sega Mega Drive II's. One is connected to a Mega CD II and that is the one I use. The other has a funny power cord that I need to replace, so I don't really use it.

I'd like to get a Sega Genesis Model 1 so I can get some US games.

I also have a PAL Saturn and PAL Dreamcast.

Model 1 Genesis with all hookups
Model 2 Sega CD sans mixer cable to hook to Genesis

Also ordered a model 2 Genesis on ebay for a girl I was seeing, but after I paid for it, we broke up. What should I do with the Genesis 2? Don't really wanna sell it.

Keep it and make a Sega Neptune out of it.

If you're planning on getting a Model 1 Genesis, make sure it says "High Definition Graphics" on the top and has an EXT port.

Thanks. Yeah I'm getting the model 1 because I've read claims that it gives a better video output than the model 2. The model 2 produces these faint horizontal lines in games (I've seen them myself) while the model 1's video output is clear. Is this true?

Those horizontal lines are seen on all units I've come across with, be it MD1 or MD2... only things that are better are lack of TMSS screen (all games play, no annoying 5 second wait) and better sound in most cases. Those lines are much more visible in NTSC than in PAL.... only way to get rid of them is to use RGB or have a 32X sitting in your system.
