View Full Version : Thunder Force II - What the hell do they say?

For nearly 20 years now I've been wondering what is being said right when you start a game of Thunder Force II. Anyone who can decipher the voice should win a prize. I can understand EVERYTHING else in the game, even "Breaker System On!" but what this guy says is beyond me, except for the "Good Luck" part.
Here is the sound file in MP3 format (http://pixelcraze.film-tech.net/reviews/TF2.mp3) - 164 KB
A couple of the far-fetched attempts I've heard are:
--"If you think you need it, luck, good luck."
--"This is Extra Heated!" "Louder... Good Duck."
--"Now you need defeat the.... HARBOR.... good luck!"
Anyone have any ideas? This mystery MUST be solved!

Here's what I hear:
"If you think you need it, louder, good luck."
"If you think you need it, later, good luck"
I don't can't make out if it's louder or later.

I'm pretty sure 'louder' is just an engrish pronounced 'roger'.

I've given up on trying to understand that. I usually just return the good luck thumbs up and imagine that the game is trying to simulate entertaining flightcraft noises.

I wonder if the first part of the phrase is even English? I agree about the "Loger" possibility. I've thought of that, too.

The opening lines are, "This is Excelsier. 'Roger, Good Luck.'" Excelsier is the name of your ship.
The voice in the X68000 version is much clearer.
Edit: It's actually "Exceliza," sorry.
No, no. He says "here's an extra liter... ladder... good luck!

Does anyone know what the heck the computer says when you start Thunder Force II?? This is at the screen where the little snake is. All I can make out is ".....good luck!"

And still no one can e-mail me the X68000 voice for me to host for others. Surely somebody must know how to record audio. It's not hard. Or can someone give me the ROM and point me to a good X68000 emulator so I may do it myself?

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunder_Force_II:
"This is Exceliza, I will deploy now." "Roger, good luck!"

The Genesis version seems to lack the "I will deploy now".
Here is the X68000 version of the voice uploaded and archived (you can't trust those free file hosting places to keep the file forever).

I hear...
"Eight Eight-Eight-Eight thirty Eight Seven.. "Roger, good Luck."

I went back and edited a post of mine on the last page with a permanent link to the X68000 version of the speech.
Sounds the same, except "I want to fly now..........................Roger, good luck."

Well, that was my first try at moderating and I misclicked one of the options. Forgive my learning stage, kind Sega-16ers.

Man, how did I miss the chopping block? When have I ever contributed to a discussion? :p

Discussion has died around here lately... I guess people are enjoying the last of the good weather.

I dunno... I have started paying a lot more attention to the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16, Sega Master System and Saturn than the Genesis. I think most of what is to say about the Genesis has already been said. I hope I'm wrong about that.

Naw, we still got plenty of games to review and plenty of former employees to track down. Not until we've individually cataloged every smoke and bathroom break Tom Kalinske ever took can we cease.

Tom Kalinske smokes? This must be determined.
Tom Kalinske smokes? This must be determined.
Tom Kalinske uses the bathroom? This must also be determined.

SEE? Just more Sega Corporation mysteries for us to unravel. I'm starting to feel a little like The Question, here...
