I tried Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros., while they are NOT the same as the originals in any way they do work with a Tototek flash cart.

I can't get MK VIII to work unfortunately, and that sucks because I want to try it REALLY BAD.

A good deal of unlicensed, Taiwan-produced software for the MD has protection routines programmed into it. Such routines are usually designed to ensure difficulty in making bootleg copies of the games by rival outfits. However they can also interfere with emulation of the games, and / or their performance when written to a flash cart.

The majority of these games, I think, are going to give you troubles when trying to run them on a flash cart - and that's no fault of the flash cart maker. The games are just going into defensive mode, and since each Taiwan developer generally came up with their own unique (sometimes strange and puzzling) protection scheme, the bypass may involve something as simple as a couple of Game Genie codes, or something entirely different altogether. Or, you could simply just have a bad dump of the game you're trying to put on the cart.

I can't give you much help with the process of getting these games to run properly on a flash cart, as I only play these types of games from their original cartridges, but generally there are at least two different ROM sets available for most of these games:

1). The original dump with protection enabled
2). The original dump with protection hacked out

So if you don't feel like mucking about the internet for a work-around, get mucking for a hacked ROM image.

Just get a load of the ROMs of a particular game you wanna run, different ROMs and just start trying them out.... at least one will always work

I wouldn't say that, some Roms that are out there still won't work... a famous example would be the "Super Bubble Bobble"-Rom - the only dump that exists is only playable when the copy protection is bypassed using an Action Replay-Code - and the freezer address is at such an unusual place that it seems to be out of the address range of a game genie, too.

Like I said: "...if you don't feel like mucking about the internet for a work-around, get mucking for a hacked ROM image."

No, there is a dump of this game that's had the copy protection hacked out. Like I said, such dumps exist for most of these games - you just need to know where to find them. However, if you're using the Tototek MD-PRO (which everyone should be), you can just patch the code over via the programming software's cheat code screen. Badda-bing, badda-boom: You can now play a crappy rendition of Bubble Bobble on your MD.

The damndest thing, though, is that if you're actually trying to learn about the copy protection, sometimes it's a pain in the rear when all you can find is the hacked ROM. The Chinese hackers don't always release the original, "clean" dump - which means if you want it, you need to dump it yourself from an original cartridge. This isn't very fun, because it requires wasting money on what is usually a piss-poor game, just to not play it. :)
