lol. Maybe you don't know the history behind it but this repro was done by a member of these boards, playgen. Unfortunately his website is down and no archived versions show any pictures, so I can't find any evidence specifically showing that the same thing in the auction is his repro, but I do know it myself without needing proof, as many others do also I'm sure :)
Can't see the pictures but here's the last available archive of his site, with Sonic Eraser towards the bottom:

Yes, the seller has pics of the cart. He used the North American cartridge label layout instead of PAL, very foolish of them...

Well, if the seller is unaware of this, he may very well have been fooled in the first place. Perhaps he truly believes it's the real deal.

Iīm selling my whole pc games and sega mega drive (Pal) collection.
I have all Pal version for Sega ever released - like Fatal Fury 2, Punisher,
Superman - Death and Return of, Daze, or the prototype of SONIC ERASER!!!
All in new or like new/Mint condition. So please check out my other items!
I didn't know there was a Pal version of Fatal Fury 2??
Me thinks that guy bought an eprom burner and is trying to make a quick buck.

That's my guess with those other games he's selling. It looks like the Sonic Eraser was taken down as well. Hopefully he didn't end up selling it to someone for tons of money.
And those other Pre-Release PCBs are likely the final game with the casing taken off. talk about LAME.

Wow, looks awesome. That has the PAL label layout where the top of the Sega logo is rounded. The North American layout has a rectangular shape outlining the top of the Sega logo (at least on early games). That's what I'm trying to say. I'm just talking about the cartridge label.

He relists out of fear that he's found out so tries to make it sound like he's still innocent. Yeah, yet he still lists it at a ridiculous price and claims he'll accept "reasonable" offers. Yeah, reasonable probably being sitll MUCH more than a repro is worth. :/ The very fact he tried selling a repro as a proto, claims it's from a sega dev though he tells me it was his sister, and then is selling those bare pcb's of the final products.....how can he think anyone will trust him now? What an asshat and disgrace to the gaming community. Both a disgrace for repro producers and proto collectors as well :(

There comes a sad point in your life when you realize you grown up and you have to give up some things and thatīs why Iīm offering in this auction:
He makes it sound like he's selling his cherished childhood memories,
yet we've only had that Sonic Eraser dump since 2004. :o
oh man this thread is hilarious, And its all because its almost impossible to report people on Ebay.
(you have to go through 200 pages of yes/no/maybe forms)
If it wasn't so difficult i'd have reported that fucktard who's selling DreamSnes on there.

Fine by me. At least now he clearly states that this is most likely a repro (it is), and if someone, with this knowledge, wants to blow ~$500 on it, let em. They're completely crazy to do so, but there's really no trickery in this anymore.
Bramsworth

Yeah, no trickery, except he's selling pcb's from final games without their casings, got rid of his previous story, and also fails to include some info that I believe rika_chou gave him but he happily decided to ignore:

So someone bought it, probably for a ridiculous price.
Edit: Got another message
"Hi, as I see you are an American, so I will try to be patient - CSK where my sister worked as a manager owned Sega Corporation and she had a friend from dev.dep.- a funny japanise guy, he was 40 and still played games :) That was a good source."

Well its not in the GoodGen set and i really doubt that they didn't have Copiers back in Australia.
Fatal Fury 2 is a pretty well known game so a rom dump should have been found by now if it really existed.

Of course not, silly. Simply look at the back of the box. When was the last time that you saw a PAL game with less than 26 different languages on the back of the box? And let's not get started on how thin that manual is!

Some games, such as Phantasy Star II and Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom, only have English on the back of the box and in the manual. Which makes sense, since they are very text-intensive games. You must handle the game text in English, so there is no point in translating the manual.

Did you see my Pal cartridge picture for cheesage? I guess I forgot to turn it over. No need to exagerate Joe. Most, like D&D, only came in English/French and German.
P.S.> I guess deep down inside I really wanted it to be real. I'm still getting used to the idea of protos, I don't know if they should be considered collectible, but this was one item I've always wanted to include in my Sonic line-up. This guy was a "douge," no doubt, but perhaps I'll acquire it, nonetheless, from another source some day. I personally don't think it looked too bad. (Also, the most I'd pay for something like that is $50.00 CIB.)

Even if someone never knew the game, it is obviously fake because the boxart does not look like it was made in '91, it looks similar to the art in SRB2. And why would there be a box and a manual for a prototype?
I hope this person gets banned from eBay after they figure him out ;) (Though it would probably never happen).

I find Sonic hard to draw, so used the original Sonic the Comic cover as a template, and put a second Sonic in as theres two in the game. Seemed better to base it on official artwork than any grotesque sonic that looked like he had been beaten up that I could create! Its a pretty simple and not that great looking image, but in my defence it was the first one I did, and it was never meant to be a mass production thing, I only made a few (4 perhaps).
A look in my email folder has uncovered the guy in question, he bought it from me in 2007. I never claimed to be a sega employee or any nonsense like that.
I hope nobody was fooled and bought the game for silly money, the moral problems like this are why I stopped making repro carts. Hopefully it didn't actually sell, after all a quick google search will tell you all about the game - that the rom is easily avaliable to download, and theres images of my repro floating around the net still.

Why didn't you just put a thin red band or something at the top of the cover, saying 'REPRODUCTION CARTRIDGE' in white-on-red or something like that? That way the totally legitimate videogame enthusiasts you sold the carts to get their unfinished prototype game, and you get a bit of elbow room if these guys then rip someone off down the line.
