20 years already.

As for you euro Mega Drive fans, wait another year before celebrating since you got the system a year later. :p

Ah, my third parent turns 20. Genesis taught me all the lessons I needed to survive. Like when the bully flashes after you hit him, wait for the flashing to stop and hit him again.

Its weird to think about all these great game systems being so old. Neat thing is the way the games hold their own against the newer system releases. Then the newer systems try to release their retro collections, but the truly best way of playing the games is on the original hardware. No question about it.

Or the opposite, when YOU flash you're INVINCIBLE!!

Oh come on, and the store near me is having a Dreamcast marathon instead for 10 year anniversary of the DC. http://www.sega-16.com/forum/images/icons/mad.gif

And this guy's a FEKA goon too? I thought J_factor was our resident FEKA Goon?

I'm the only FEKA goon. Accept no substitute.

Mil....er, Melf, are you reading this? Smells like a 20th Anniversary piece in the making. :D

In all seriousness, I'd (once again) like to hear from those who recall the launch and who purchased the console around lunch time. I'll be playing through the first-gen titles........let it be known that I'll blast anyone who dares play or mention playing "Super Thunder Blade" with an Elmer Fudd 12-gauge. ;)

Hmm, now I have to decide between playing Altered Beast to celebrate or Marvel vs. Capcom 2, which comes out that day on psn.

Interesting... A Celebration. :D I should set-up a Genesis marathon with my friends. I think I'll choose the second installments of some titles for now, just to keep up with the big 2 on Year 20:

Road Rash II
Mortal Kombat II
Street Fighter II (Championship Edition)
Sonic the Hedgehog II
Golden Axe II (Co-Op)

Honorable Co-Op Mention:
ToeJam and Earl: Panic in Funkotron

Yep no doubt about it. There's no substitute for the real thing. Compilations or emulation is nice to try out these classics but the real experience is had actually owning and playing the original hardware and games.
The Genesis is a remarkable console. Even after twenty years, the games still look, sound and play amazing. I own the three main next-gen consoles: Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii and can tell you the Genesis games still blow me away. I can switch from playing a next-gen game to a Genesis game and be equally if not more impressed with it. Amazing. :D

I just realized something. I was born on May 24, 1990, 9 months and 10 days after the Genesis' release. There's a good chance that I was conceived on that day as well! Holy crap, that would be awesome, and sort of explain my obsession with the console!

Oh, and I really want that modem. Why wasn't it released?
