i've been watching 32x stuff on ebay for well over 6 months now, about 6 months ago was the time i picked up my 32x with 5 games for about £80 all boxed games mind so a bit of a good deal i thought.

yet now even the common games like toughman, metal head etc are being listed at crazy prices of £40 upwards! i dont understand it really one min you can pick up Virtua Fighter for £7 box the next min some arr-tard wants £40 for it! i hate to rant but i feel that this sort of behaviuor is annoying! i swear people are buying up these games and then hiking the prices to make a quick buck!

i mean here is an example... NBA for £50! its not even a rare bloody game!

I went nuts on my 32x collecting between November 08 and April 09 and got nearly every game for under $15 each, most complete.

Still missing Spiderman and WSB w/ Deion Sanders. Missed out on Night Trap for $12 by mis-timing the auction end time.

Haven't looked in a while. The economy was really bad at the begining of the year, so I suspect some collectors needed to dump their collections. Things seem to be getting better here in the US so maybe prices are going back up to normal levels.

Well, you have to remember how much rarer 32x stuff is in UK than it is here. You can get a bunch of 32x titles here in the US at a dime a dozen. I got I think 8 titles and the 32x with all hookups except for the A/V cables for $35. They're all cart only but hey. The only expensive 32x games out here are probably WSB Starring Deion Sanders (Goes into probably the $20-40 price range) and Spiderman: Web of Fire.

I wouldn't say a dime a dozen. Most of the retro game stores I have ever been to don't really ever have 32x titles, or if they do, they have less than 10 (and I quickly buy them all that I don't have). The only games I want that I don't yet have I have had multiple opportunities to buy them and I have passes them up. Really, it's just WSB and RBi 95. I want Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 too. I would probably purchase anything I don't have if I'm feeling right and I have the cash and the price is reasonable.

EDIT: Wait a minute, there are two different versions of WSB?

No...there's only one. World Series Baseball Starring Deion Sanders.

And I do think that 32x games are a Dime a Dozen. My local store sells 32x games, there's not a big selection but almost everything they have is under $10, even if it's CIB. I got every last one of my 32x games at $1 apiece off of a person on Digitpress, and then at my local my brother got NBA Jam T.E for $2.73 cart only.

I really gotta checkout that Digitpress. Their Youtube account makes their store look like a mecca of classic gaming.

Good lord I haven't spent that much on any 32X game. It's amazing that I got my brand new from Target back in 97 or 98 for 24.99

oh i agree some of its rare in the uk but games like Virtua Fighter, racing, after burner are not in short supply. i just hate the fact some people buy for £7 then re-sell what they win at £40. its not cool! and its artifically inflating the prices of the games! gits!

It's not just the 32x games. There seem to be plenty of games on various formats that are not rare but are up on ebay for silly prices. What I think is happening is that someone will put something up with a buy it now price that is a complete joke, but other people will see it, think that must be what the game is worth, and then list theirs at the same price. Before long all you have are games with severely inflated prices.

It's not helped by some people being dumb enough to pay those prices.

EDIT: Another possibility is that some of the sellers don't expect to sell the games on ebay. Instead they are either doing it to attract offers outside of ebay (thereby avoiding fees), or as some stupid form of willy waving by showing off their collection (I think the individuals who do this have some mental problems, but I know it happens).

PAL 32X stuff is also becoming as rare as rocking horse shit, less and less listed on eBay and I haven't seen a system or game in the wild for at least 5 years.

Quoted for truth.

Looks like neither me or Colin are getting a 32X without importing. D:

Not bad.
But when I bought my 32x on Ebay like a year or so ago, I payed about the same price for it and it was boxed complete and had 5 complete games. >_<

Well as these systems get older, they only get harder and harder to find as the old owners start to figure the things are worthless & throw them out while the collectors start to collect and keep the rest permanently.

Thats why I say buy classic consoles now while they're still somewhat common.

Ex. As the Atari generation gets older, you know Atari 2600s are going to get harder to find as many people don't know what they are anymore. D=

Close, but not quite. More likely it's that game systems are only "modern" for about 5 years after they stop having new games released. At that point, they usually become about worthless and people don't even bother to give them away because it's not worth the trouble (prime example: original XBOX and Gamecube).

If the systems survive that era, they start to regain popularity as people start feeling nostalgic and want to relive previous generations of games. The problem is that often times the systems are improperly stored and get ruined by moisture from the garage or attic and get thrown out. Also, capacitors and fuses sometimes go bad and people don't realise they are fixable. Sometimes the problem can be as simple as a bad 72-pin connector, yet people don't know and assume it's broken, so in the trash it goes. Probably 90% of "broken" systems can be fixed with a proper cleaning.

Lastly, and this is a recent development, people don't understand the compatibility issues with RF and high def TVs and throw the systems away under the assumption that they are broken when it's really just a compatibility issue. I've had lots of people think their Atari or even NES/Genesis was broken because the RF wouldn't work with their TV. If no one is there to correct them, it will usually get thrown out. So, the reason these systems and games leave the market is because collectors have been snatching them up and hanging on to them, people often improperly store and thus ruin them, or TV compatiblity issues make people think the game system is broken and throw it away.

Almost the same thing is happening with muscle cars today. Years of rust and poor maintenance, reckless driving and subsequent wrecks, and a fairly small number produced for some models makes them a rare (and expensive) proposition nowadays.

Most people assume anything that is old and still works is valuable (and often it is), so I don't think anyone is chunking a perfectly working Atari 2600, especially not more likely today than 10 years ago.

I don't think 32X stuff is high on eBay. Sure a few titles such as World Series Baseball, Web of Fire and Blackthorne are somewhat pricey but I just picked up a CIB unit with 10 CIB Genesis classics for $35.

That's because most of it is rarer than rare.
