Occasionaly when i have cash i go to Play N Trade to see what games they have available for SNES and Genesis. One day i went there, i was checking out the old games section. Some guy comes up to me and says "why are you wasting your money on this old crap? are you some kind of retard?"

The clerk tells the guy "that wasnt cool dude, there is noting wrong with liking old games"

The guys proceeds to insult me more unitl i finally got fed up and punched him straight in the mouth, knocking 2 of his front teeth out. The guy just ran out like a faggot.

The Clerk let me take 2 games for free because of what i did. I got Demolion Man and Aladdin for SNES for free.

I haven't turned on my 360 in about 5 days. I've been playing Skies of Arcadia and loving every minute. That says something I believe. Actually, there are just no good games on the 360 right now. Thank god I still have my dreamcast. I mean, I'm looking through my game library for the 360 and get depressed. All these games suck.(triple aaa games, too) They have know lasting appeal. I would of been better off renting these games.

I used to get heckled quite a bit when I was a kid for having a SNES and not an N64, but ever since then, no I've never had any problems, and in fact I have had people saying that my hobby is awesome though.

I, too, have felt the urge to punch someone in the mouth, but thankfully that has not happened yet. Although I hope the guy in your story was of our generation, it would've felt a lot sweeter. I can uderstand a teenager nowadays fronting you like that, they'd just be testing you. I wouldn't even bother with them. But a person our age... There's no excuse for trashing Retro gaming when you were raised with these particular consoles/games. Surely that must be paid with the equivalent of two front teeth.

P.S.> My last visit to Play N Trade actually had a polar oposite occurrence. Two younger guys (about 17-19) showed up selling their Wii and PS3. They saw me rummaging through a box of Saturn and Sega CD games. They were actually quite cool about the subject. Both of them seemed quite interested in Retro gaming overall, but most importantly, about the Sega Genesis.

I too have a problem with your comment of prejudice. I have a friend who's gay, and he is one of the most friendly and downright awesome person that I have ever met. A comment like that says much more about yourself than it does it does to some "faggot" who hassled you for playing old video games. Bragging about how you knocked his teeth out, whether it's true or not, violence is not the answer to a dispute you had in a game store.

If I were the manager, I would have called the police without even thinking about tossing you some freebies. The story should have ended with you in handcuffs for assault, but at least you got to walk away knowing that you're the better person. By the way, I believe you got in a argument with that man, but I seriously doubt you hit him, I believe that you got free games out of it even less. To get on to the topic of this thread, I've never gotten any flack for playing old games, in fact, people love the fact that I have so many old school games. Although I have a larger collection of cartridges of anyone I know, it is extremely modest when compared to some people on the net, yes, you folks included.

I have been looked at like I was crazy or cheap at GameCrazy when they had SNES and Genny titles. The guy lightened up after I had been there a few times, realised I was a collector and not a cheapskate.

Once in GC, I got in line, and I was the only white guy there. I'm slummin it and not dressed up at all with ripped jeans and a faded t-shirt.

I can't recall any time I've ever been heckled for liking old games by anyone. Even my nephew who is 11 likes some of the older games too, but I think his mom/my sister may have taught him to like them as they played Genesis and SNES games together at home. His friends who are also young don't seem to hate them or anything either as some of them owned old consoles inherited from siblings or parents and whatnot. Sometimes he will say a when he thinks an older game is tacky or boring, but whenever he says that, often times we mutually agree.

Your story brings up a very good point. Some gamers are intolerant of retro gamers because its not the "mainstream". I guess some gamers are either confused or just jealous that we have a retro gamer hobby. People sometimes get angry because others aren't flowing in the generally herded direction and they have to yell and insult others for not following the beaten path. I don't know if you read the quote I posted earlier but it sums up whats going on in present day gaming. People are disenchanted. They are very disappointed in the titles released now a days. I will have to give Sega some respect though. Their new software are rock solid these days. Bayonetta, Aliens Vs Predator....I am really excited to see these hit the market.
