View Full Version : What games do you love but suck at playing?

I love Streets of Rage 3 but have only gotten to the final stage about twice with lives maxed out at nine per continue. I've never completed it. Mega Turrican is awesome to play but I've only been able to get to the second water level before exhausting all my lives/continues. Alien Soldier is probably my favorite Megadrive game but have only made it to Stage 6 using about 10 continues. I love playing shmups but I typically suck hard in this genre. I haven't gotten past the second level of Sol-Deace and Gaiares. I've only gotten to the third stage of Hellfire, Biohazard Battle and Twin Cobra. These games own me every time but I still love playing them. :D

Hmmm.....Chakan. I really want to like that game. It's just too annoyingly difficult.

Ghouls and Ghost I suck ass at but I still come back to play it and definitely Revenge Of Shinobi can barely get past the first boss.

Thank you. You'll be my human shield on these two.

Also, I'd add Comix Zone on my part.

Yeah, any of the Ghouls and Ghost, Ghosts and Goblins games own my ass. They are crazy hard.

I'm gonna say Ghouls and Ghosts to fit in, but include Bio Hazard Battle to show how much I suck at shooters. I 've only ever made it to level 7.

That's the same reason why I traded my copy for Sonic Spinball back in '95.

Ghouls"N'Ghosts for sure though Super Ghouls "N' Ghosts really kicks my ass. I can't remember how long it took me to get to level three. Maximo 1 and 2 on Ps2 also had me plying like crazy but I never really got good at them.

Ghouls 'n Ghosts and Streets of Rage 3 on the MD
R-Type 1&2, Shadow of the Beast (yeah I often come back at that game, don't know why either :p ), Disposable Hero, Z-Out, Apydia on the Amiga.

Well I just generally suck at playing V- or H-scrolling Shmups, but I still like them :)

Anything Metal Slug

I still don't fully believe that people can 1 credit any of those games.

Also COD4

Quite a fiew, though some I probably just lack practice (like Silpheed or Soulstar -especially the latter, emulating with savestates would probably help though, still that 2nd mission on Soulstar is tough...).

I have yet to get 1st place in Virtua Racing (either 32x or Genesis, though I only have the latter in hard copy -former emu only), particularly anoying as I really want to see if either has the arcade victory cutscene.

I was trying to stick with Genesis titles, since this is in the Genesis section, but I have to admit it: I'm absolutely horrible at playing Megaman. MegaMan X4 is a beautiful game on the Saturn, yet everytime I try to play the game, I turn it off in disgust. I'd got nowhere with the NES games either.

Shmups in general. For instance, I totally adore Ikaruga, but at the same time I'm terrible at playing it.

Honorable mention goes to Flashback. But then, maybe I should just spend a bit more time with the game to better learn how to play it properly.

Only one off my mind would be Dr Mario. I love playing it (have it on WiiWare) but I suck at it, I keep making mistakes, the same ones I've been doing since the NES days.

Just trying to get something off my mind:

If the thread (ANY THREAD, actually) is under "Genesis Does," doesn't it call to mind to post GENESIS related replies?

Battletoads.

The genesis is easier (and this more fun) than the NES original, but I still can't get past that one GODDAM jump in the ice cave level!!!

I can finish both of these games on their hardest difficultly settings with my eyes closed.

The most insanely difficult game on the Genny that I have not put enough time and effort into finishing is Gaiares. She's like a whore that you don't want to go back to, but in the end you will because of temptation.

Gaiares without a doubt. I've gotten to the last boss a few times, but man... But not anymore. I'm out of shape when it comes to that game. Doesn't matter though - I love the game, music, graphics, cinemas/story, etc. One of the most impressive/badass/underrated Genesis game ever.

Yep, Gaiares was made with the intention to make you literally love & hate it. I'm beyond out of shape myself, but I'm gonna get her. I know I can because I finally finished Phelios on "Expert" back in April and that was a victory well worth won. I was pretty shocked when I finished it, and I haven't fired up the Genny since (been working too much). Most anyone can call themselves a video gamer. Only a few can be known as whore mongers and crushing Gaiares will most definitely allow me to be graced with such a title.

MicroMachines - about any entry in that series

In Two Player - Mode, I always lose, and in Four-Player Mode the only times I don't end up last are when two other guys are more busy eliminating each other.

But it's fun at gaming parties ;)

Threads here rarely resemble their original topic after the 4th or 5th post. I'm surprised we made it 10+ posts before derailing it, if only slightly :D

But if you insist:

Although I fancy myself to be better than the average bear at SHMUPS, Gaiares gets me also. I got past the Grim Reaper boss a couple of times but I think I got shell-shocked from it and couldn't bring myself to play it again.

I don't have too big of Problems with the Ghouls and Ghosts games. They take a few plays to get used to though.

But I do have a problem with Contra Hard Corps - I can more or less smoke Contra, Super C, Contra III, and Contra IV. For some reason Hard Corps has me stumped.
