The relaunch is here, and we're kicking things off with a review of one of the best action/RPGs around. Check out our review (http://www.sega-16.com/Review-%20Wonder%20Boy%20in%20Monster%20World.htm) of Wonder Boy in Monster World and see why you're collection is incomplete without it.

I agree that everyone should have this game... everyone. But it helps if you own a Genesis to go with it as well. How will everyone be able to get a copy? Well Sega will just have to make some more! Anyway I played and beat this game a while back in the past, and then once again via emulation. Then I bought and completed Monster World IV for the Mega Drive (freakin' awesome), after which I bought and completed this again. Quite underwhelming compared to Monster World IV, but still a great game in its own right, if a bit short. Lots of people complain about the last boss, but he is doable and not tremendously frustrating. It's fun! And I love the music that plays when you're in the area where you have to beat all of the bosses again... straight from Monster Lair!

I had this game in my youth, and I miss it so very, very much. I remember not being very impressed with it at first, but once I started getting deeper into the game I knew it was something special. It's one of the gaming experiences that left an impression on me when I was younger and I'll love it always.

Playing this game years ago is a hard feeling to explain, but I just don't get it that often with modern games.

The game does start out with your character being incredibly slow and somewhat weak. I can see how that would put some people off a bit.

I wasn't too impressed by this game, but I played it through and had a good time with it. It has a great song - "Passageway". The last boss was very annoying to me, but I got him after around 6-7-8-9 tries. You just have to be careful with the rolling floor.

The "Turbo console" has a much better version of Castlevania than the Genesis... by a factor of about 5 to 1. I remember I played through Dracula X, and then Bloodlines came out for the Genesis. I was so disappointed with it because I had played Dracula X first.

Even if the Turbo console "sucks" (if you say so, whatever), that doesn't make the Genesis version of Wonderboy in Monster World better than Dynastic Hero for Turbo CD.

man i hate turbo graphx, one of the strangest consoles ever, first showing some crappy, really crappy 8 bit visuals and then repetetive 16 bits graphics.dracula x is best on turbo and for shure not on snes or something else.neeh Turbo graphx is to expensive and its not worth 200 balzz,so ill skip that console, atleast for that price,I dont like TG16,upinion ehy.

Joe Redifer

And Ys Book I & 2. And the best version of Ys 4 by far. Those are undeniable games. So are:

Gate of Thunder
Lords of Thunder
Devil' Crush
R-Type
Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire
Fatal Fury 2 (blows away all other conversions)
Street Fighter II Champion Edition
Dragon Slayer

Each of those games is at least 10 times better than Vectorman.

By the way, I paid dollars for my system, not balzz (whatever that is).

More entertaining than Niles Nemo, though... just for the cheesoid factor alone! And is man-boy pal that lived with him. Unintentionally entertaining stuff.

Ha ha, I know Ari lives for Vectorman and probably has a shrine. Truth be told I'd rather play any of the games I listed over Vectorman... anyday. Also add Legendary Axe 1 and 2 to that list.

Yeah right, ten times better then veccie,Joe first play veccie entirely then judge, and maybe vectorman didnt catch all the popularity but ehy, which of those TurboGP games did,None, and please come on.F...cking fatal fury 2,no that a fighting game, and that above veccie no not even close. And johnny turbo walks on the street nowedays with a sign bord,Turbo graphix, trubographx buy one,and on the other side 200 bucks you got one, plus i need the money.and he steals alcohole from homeless people to trade that for the ways better Fega cd(damn whats that about Fega cd,damn how fucking kiddy to advertise, ooh wait advertising and TG 16 never matched)And which of those games that youve listed joe show over 64 colours anyway, none. But please dont compare a good game with a few up games for the tg16,we al now that it also did recieve darkwin Yuck and other ugly looking games in oposite,Maybe the console is fine,i liked bonx etc.But its not genesis,I like the pcengineGT street fighter playing portable my dream back then.If it was for sale for 50 euros on a garage sale then ill devnitly buy it and play it for what it is and have fun with it,it is a colectors item nowdays.

BTW i wasnt impressed by veccie the first few days, but ehy 7 euros for a fine title isnt bad,I like Comix zone more,so cant be told that i live for veccie only, but ehy if you ask me to sum up the positives about comix zone or Rnager x etc,ill prase those to,But Joe you reply my answer an say that vectorman sucks compared to TG16 games(ofcourse subjective)but then youlle get a subjective counter because yes im just a fan of that,Oke wanna play it the other way, here,Those TG16 games vs,Comix zone,Ranger x,Landstalker, youle now it and ways more eyh, genesis wins defnitly. Then snes.Dk country 1 tm 3,Final fantasy 1/3 Starfox,Final Fight 3,x Man mutant appocalipse, rock and roll racing etc.So TG16 defnitly had no chance aggainst any 16 bit console, only in sales(but thats nothing for a subjective piont)Neo geo had Samurai showdow series,K.O.f series Fatal fury Motw etc.Amiga got loads of great games.TG 16 sucks compared to.Im lying a bit TG 16 is a okay console,Strip fighter looked funny Bonx was awesome etc.

But Graphical thumbs upp for ristar, please Kick Ranger x of its place Ristar deserves it obviously.Did i mention the story i read on sega 16,Ranger x 64 colours simultaineously where do you pick the colours from there arent 64 colours simultaineously in screen in that game no way.then youlle have to count with paint and even with all possible animations it doesnt reach the 64,offcourse with all the animations and going ons.but thats not all at once so no 64 colours and i cant see them,Ristar obviously looks better.Colours cant be counted just looking at the picture, even that first boss doesnt contain over 64 hell no,almost no game does it,but thats no probe at all,its about the total graphics and the animations and paralax that make,s it atractive for genesis so i have no complaints.BTW Ranger x rewards you, just like alien soldier with a death boring end.All the trouble for crap,i was going to expect more from that game after every level i surpassed, the water level looked nice but i hoped for more outstanding graphics and i get the bored of the flying upp level.

BTW the forest lookes awesome.and the later level, but the cave is a drag and boring, level 3 has 3d effect, but they bore at the time and arent immpressive, ill give it stil a 8.Ristar is the graphical bomb for the genesis, and like batman returns blew me away(the mdcd version)beats the snes in multiform

The TurboGrafx was released in Europe, well kind of anyway. There are PAL Turbografx consoles, you can still buy new ones now, as there was/is a massive load of new old stock of the consoles. I think they did release it, then quickly changed their minds and scrapped the idea - much like the Amstrad GX4000.

man o man, does this thread take me back. waaaay back. the master system was me first console to break me into gaming. i remember saving and saving for wonder boy III at my local electronics boutique. i can remember EVERYTHING about the day my mom took me to the mall to buy it. The weather, the traffic, everything. Well, i handed the clerk my hard earned money for my new little treasure. I took it home, looked at it for a while, staring at the box art, reading the back, again and again. Well, after about an hour or so, i gently cut open the shrink wrap, careful not to damage the plastic beneath. I open up the case, inspected everything, took the manual out, opened it up and took a big sniff. AHHHHHH..................new manual smell!!!! There was only one thing left to do. After i was done appreciating the experience, i put the cart in, and had a great time playing this until i beat the stuff out of it. good times. And like was commented on a few posts back, not to many current gen games give me that feeling, or anything like it. Just goes to show, the classics are some of the best games. PERIOD.

Ditto. I rented this game when I was 5 or 6, and I was obsessed with it for months on end, beating it over and over and over again(after many rentals my mom finally just bought a copy for me). The game was so cool that my 15 y/o brother's drug addict friends couldn't stop coming over to play it... Hell I even dressed up as Shion for Halloween in first grade, complete with blue hair dye and cardboard sword/armor, and totally impressed my would-of-been-girlfriend(who conveniently dressed up as a princess!). Yes, life was pretty much perfect for me back then when I was playing Wonder Boy... Even after that, I was still lucky in the fact that at least games were awesome for years to come. I never thought that after the Playstation/N64/Saturn era games would start sucking so badly. Games now are just not the same :(
