I'm planning a new article series that details games which received massive hype. Did they live up to it, or were they lacking? I woudn't make it a review per se, instead focusing on the game's origin and all the advertising and hype that was built up around it. The article would then go on to discuss what happened to the game, and whether or not it was what everyone was expecting.

I'm considering kicking things off with Night Trap.

What do you guys think?

Brainwave! Lots of games deserve an article like that.

Although how would you make it different from just a game review with comments about the hype?

It seems to be based more on a games history, than it's full content.

I dunno... It's really a matter of opinion whether the game lives up to its hype. A review is obviously based around the writer's opinion, but when writing an article it seems to be more "official".

It's an interesting idea, but I'm worried about the potential bias.

I would target the high profile games, so as to avoid bias. No one can doubt the hype surrounding Night Trap, Mortal Kombat, or Sonic.

To make it different from a review, I would focus on the game's origin, release circumstances, and how it measured up to expectations. I would only comment on its gameplay, graphics, etc, if it were relevant to one of those.

That's a good idea

That name sounds like "crappy Playstation boxing game or Chrissie Hynde".
