To my shame I actually own this game on Mega Drive but have never played it, I got it because I knew it was supposed to be good but thought it looked difficult to get into so I put off playing it until "the right time" which unfortunately never happened, maybe I'll put it on later

One of the greatest adventure games I've ever played. It reminded me of Shadowgate but in a third person view.

I played it for about ten minutes, promptly got killed many times, then promptly got annoyed, then promptly turned this game off.

Yes, I have this game and I love it! Thanks for asking mrbigreddog.
The Immortal has such a great atmosphere -- very dark and creepy, with fantastic music!
The brief written segments are like excerpts from an awesome book. You are put right in the shoes of the wizard. (I love when he falls into an uneasy slumber, lol.)
I think the combat system might be confusing at first, but it is quite simple once you get used to it.
Any one beat the game?

Ken, can we merge this with the immortal review thread?

I played the Immortal upon its release for the PC (DOS). The game brings great ambience to the table and an Ad Lib soundtrack to match. A quite difficult game, like many of the time, and I recall it also being rather short. If the Genesis version is as good as the PC version, I'd wholeheartedly recommend it.

The Genesis version is considerably gorier than the DOS version. Both have the close up fights, but the Genesis version adds death animations to them... rather grisly ones (for the time).
I have the DOS version (box and all), and the Genesis version. The music on the Genesis version isn't as nice as the DOS game, but it has a good number of sound effects over the DOS version. Fun stuff, but it's a vicious mixture of paying close attention to everything you pick up, and trial and error.

Ya, when I played it for the first time I was surprised by the level of violence. The battle system is somewhat strange though. I never really figured out how to duck or block. I juse swing the dagger back and forth and hope I cut him to pieces.
