I got a 32x "complete in box" and while it had the Model 1 adapter it surprisingly did not have the jumper cable between the 32x and the Genesis 2/3. Just in case the seller doesn't pull through, where would I find these?

eBay. They'll run you about $20 though.

Only one up there right now.

Thanks, I'll have to look into it if this seller doesn't find them for me.

It's your best bet, because if you don't have the cable, you are going to have a hell of a time finding one. When I bought my 32x the seller originally couldn't find the Model 1 cable, so I managed to get one off of Digitpress beforehand, then he found it and sent it to me and it ended up being corroded anyway so I guess it all worked out in the end.

The cheapest/easiest way to get one would be to make one by cannibalizing model 2 AV connectors (either from an AV cable or RF cable with all pins), those connectors are non standard 9 pin mini DIN, so that's the easiest solution. Same for Model 1, except use a model 1 connector on one end. (standard 8-pin DIN, getting uncommon, but still found outside Sega cables) Do a search for the AV pinouts, pretty easy to find. (you need R, G, B, sync, ground, and audio pins connected -the latter not so important for a Model 1 if you're getting stereo from the phono jack)

Ah, that's a good idea but the problem with that is I would have to buy the parts because I have a lot of trouble finding old retro game AV equipment locally and I do not have any spares of my own. To save time and effort I would almost rather pay the $23 bucks, but still thank you for the suggestion it is something to think about.

Yeah, if you can't get that stuff locally you may as well just get the cable.

You might be able to find the cables online. Do you have a model 2 or 1 genesis?

I'd go for the cheapest ones you can find, preferably a pair of used mono model 2 AV cable. (though repros might be cheaper) Since you've already got the adaptor, you're fine either way. ;)

Yep, I'm using a Model 1.

And the 32x came with a stereo AV cable? (not that it really matters as you're best off using the headphone jack in either case)

Also, you could try out some games w/out the mixing cable, just taking sound straight from the headphone jack and video from 32x. (some 32x games have hardly any genesis video overlay, some maybe none at all, but in any case several should be playable w/out the mixing cable, at least for testing)

I tried it out with Star Wars 32X (the only game I own) and I couldn't see anything. I could definitely hear things and when I switched back to the Genesis there was video output. Not sure what's going on there...

Mayybe I've got it wrong, but I'd thought the 32x could work without the Genesis video feed. (only the 32x layer of course)

I tried playing Tempo without the Genesis jumper connected (as I wanted to record the background "visualizations" on that one level), but the screen just kept on rollin'. ;_;

However, its easy enough to get the Genesis layer. XD

Hmm, maybe it needs the video sync signal from the Genesis.

Hmm, maybe it needs the video sync signal from the Genesis.Yep, I can confirm this (or at least that you do not get video) now that I have jumper cables. The 32X works fine but it won't display anything until it has input from the Genesis.
