View Full Version : How do you arrange your Boxes?

A2600

I arrange my boxes by type:

Master System color title
Master System color title and small box art
Master System bold title
Master System normal font title

1989 Genesis Logo
1990 Genesis Logo
1991 Genesis Logo
1992 Genesis Logo
Mega Drive Logo
All Red Boxes
GARAIES (orange-yellow)
MUSHA (Yellow)

I just realized all my red boxes are 3:

Sonic 3/Streets of Rage 3/Shinobi III/Thunderforce III

Organized by frequency of play, with the first few titles being on top of the current rotation.

By box type and region, then alphabetically.... that is, when I get horizontal shelf space as opposed to vertical :P

Mine are arranged by region & colour, and then alphabetically within those (excluding Jp games, can't be arsed). Crappy cardboard boxes sit in a different place, as do sealed games (about 10 of those :/). Things like hacks / unofficial / multicarts / Chinese originals are another group, don't have many of these though.

Mega CD games are similar. They're really irritating to store, due mostly to the stupid giant US boxes.

There's also a space filled with "recent" (last year & a half, I'd say) purchases I can't be bothered to sort at all. It just seems like it'd take up too much time atm. Hardly any of my MD stuff is displayed nicely like it should be, due to space constraints. Meh.

(Nb - I never even attempted to bother with this level of organization for any other games. For example, Saturn games = random stacks, SNES games are in shoeboxes / part of a shelf, & all my N64 carts are in a heap in a carrier bag. :) )

Just alphabetical lexicographic order for now. And when a bunch of games make up a series, then chronological order has precedence.

Pure alphabetical. Somehow the color differences don't bug me much. I prefer being able to find the game I want without remembering what kind of cover it had, anyway.

Black grid, EA, blue bubbles, 32X, Brazil red stripe, US red stripe, US other, JP, other... With CD games where they fit.

I just do alphabetical order, the only exception is my Jap version of Super Fantasy Zone and thats because the case is only half the size of a normal Genesis/MD case.

USA Red, then USA Black, Then Pal Blue, EA Yellow, then Euro black and then Japan.

Nothing alphabetically either, though if possible i tend to put games that belong together next to one another.
(sonic next to Sonic, Shinobi next to Shinobi MK next to Mk etc)
unless they switched to the new blue box of course, then i put it in the blue section.

or if i just have the US version then in the red section.

I guess I'm color coordinated, it just looks cleaner imo.

Since almost all my games are sitting in cassette trays it's ordered by which ones I play the most. The right tray is the awesome ones I play alot, middle slot is SMS and games I play sometime, and the left tray is the ones I only sometimes play. And those boxed games just sit on a shelf in any order except for PSII which always has it's own special area.

all of the Genesis games in cases are clusterfucked together, the cartridges are in 2 seperate tubs, one of tip top games and one of lesser games. Only my Sega CD games are alphabetical...because the Sega CD is the best video game system ever on the face of the earth...ever.

However, my PS2 games are grouped by association, such as racing games, sandbox games, arcade collections and/or arcade style games, platformers, FPSs, etc. I have my iPhone games grouped the same way: page of shooters, page of racing games, page of puzzle games, page of platformers, etc. etc.

Rusty, no human would stack games like that.

I have my games organized alphabetically. I've already run out of shelf space, so all the unsightly cardboxed games are hidden away behind the *real* games.

DVDs are great for backups but to be really cool theyve gotta be on a USB stick. you could even assign the SRAM to the USB stick... so it has that "cartridge" feel

So what do you guys do about 32X Doom's box? When placed in your 32X "library", do you align the stripes with the other boxes, or do you align the 32X logo? Because you can't have both, for pete's sake.

In fact, I think that would be a worthy homebrew project for someone: A corrected outer sleeve for the damned thing.

GohanX

waveIX: I did something a little more ambitious with my 32x games. I bought a case of universal media cases (clear clamshell cases, similar to Genesis cases) and created a custom insert for it.

http://www.thecoverproject.net/images/covers/32x_doom_thumb.jpg

As far as sorting-I go by alphabetical order, separating by system, but not by color. Games in the same series I will put in order, regardless of spelling.

"In the trash" Yikes!

Well, I have 10 6"x48" Shelves that are mounted to studs in the walls..

So I guess I have 40 ft of Genesis games lined up in the boxes looking pretty.

The 6" are perfect size, I measured the 8" and you have to pay more and alot of space gets wasted.

As I live at college, I do not bring my boxes up here (though I did last year!), but in most if not all of the versions/postings of my collection, I stack them (on their side) by system, then color (black, then red) and then alphabetically by company.

It game from one Estonian reseller of http://www.newgame.ru
And its that incomplete beta, not full Sonic2, no translations or other hacks done on it.

It runs quite nicely in 50Hz, its rather crap in 60Hz. Add overclocking and it becomes quite nice :)
I got it from same place as I mentioned above

PS: there's nothing wrong with the shelf, the bending is caused by camera lens distortion :P

At the moment I don't have a lot of shelf space, so they are pieced away in different cupboards in the basement, but at this point I just go alphabetical. I used to be really picky about aesthetics when I was collecting Master System, but as I got more games and got more of each different spine format (six all told on the SMS) it just became too cumbersome trying to organize, especially since some spine variants only amass one or two games. But in the end functionality > fashion.

When it comes to Genesis it is very tempting to organize the games by the two big variants (black grid and red stripes) but I'm still just going with functionality by organizing them all alphabetically. It doesn't look as nice, but when you have 1000+ games, you've got to start being practical.

SMS games look a lot better stored alphabetically than MD/Genesis games. My MD shelves look a right mess, even though I now arrange them by region and then alphabetically, and they looked even worse when all the regions were mixed together. I'm not really arsed about the looks though, alphabetical is functional and that's why I choose to arrange my games that way. The regional sectioning just makes it easier from a collecting point of view :D.

Yeah, SMS games at least do have the consistency of the grid pattern. I have no other region Genesis games (I guess that would make them Mega Drive games, wouldn't it? ;)) so that ordering temptation does not play out with me.

Mixed up. Got genesis boxes and carts on a small dvd holder.
Nes, ps1, ps2, ps3 games, boxed n64 games all together. Gameboy games are wherever they are... n64 carts are on the wall on a shelf. Just thinking of throwing it all in a box.
Dreamcast games are in a pile of cds, roughly 150 of em.. dc games w/ cases are on a cd stand on a speaker. Its a mess.
