Sparkster is back, bitches.

It's a sequel too.

So it wasn't a rumor after all. Interesting to see it become a reality, though sadly the art style is ugly.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: Does anyone else think the new graphical style resembles Crash Bandicoot?

It's not the same style, but I like it. Too bad it's not getting a hard copy release.

What the hell is with the Donkey Kong 64 level?

^say what!

...I knew it was too good to be true. :(

No no no, I just meant the art style. ;)

The story sounds amazing though. I don't think it's particularly complex, but a cool addition.

Art style is way off, but the game itself might be fun. Unless they have some of the original crew working on it I wouldn't get too excited.

Looks like a Dreamcast game.

Fuck that looks bad, makes me think they just reused a lot of 3D models from other games.

Well, then. I'm back on board.;)

Heh, not sure if I'm too fond of the new look, especially after the Contra and Gradius Rebirths that looked fairly nice. Hopefully the music is a pleasant surprise. :)

Haha, aw thank you. :) I'd always get "special" Sonic when the ice cream truck was on my block, and a TMNT pop failing that! The best (or most disgusting) part is that you can still get them from vendors today!

I haven't been here for a few days and I just found a post about this on another forum I frequent. I'm excited, although I can't say I'm too happy with the visuals. I wish we could get one of these "ReBirth" type games with high quality, hand-drawn sprites. That would be tits.

I honestly thought that the screenshot was a LittleBigPlanet level. Something about the cartoony style just poked that memory.

but forget that, HELL YEAH sparkster's in the skies again :)

:Cautious Optimism:

It looks awesome but looking at the development team's repertoire, mostly composed of ports and licensed games and most of their games look fairly mediocre. I'm gonna hope they do some heavy homework as well as QA on this one before they release it. We don't need another Sega IP going down the drain.

I honestly thought that the screenshot was a LittleBigPlanet level.

That was my first impression as well. I'm not sold on the visuals yet, but I have to see them in motion to make an opinion. I just hope the game plays like RKA.

This looks like shit but seems to play well. I really want to like this, but I'm having a hell of a time getting past the art direction.

Hell yeah I'm glad he is back, even though the graphix shown in the pics look kinda crappy, I don't like the pulled back cam either, but I'll wait for more info before I cast judgment.

I don't think I like the graphics style. It's unfortunate, I think a pure 2d game could have been beautiful. Still, it looks fun.

I'm not a fan of the art style either, but I'll hold judgement until I play a demo.

I get a Team Fortress 2 vibe off the artstyle, with a hint of LBP. Not bad...but I don't know.

I don't mind the style, I still see no reason it isn't also coming to Wiiware with VC releases for the prequels.

Wow, we need to see more stuff like this.

Dude, you probably should read up on modern gaming a bit more. Konami has been "revisiting" a bunch of their classic franchises lately. Next up is Castlevania!

Hudson and Capcom have also been updating many of their old games.

Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. Especially since Konami has supported Nintendo with their other releases.

Graphics look like PSP/DC level, if not worse. I wouldn't expect this for XBL/PSN. The Turtles in Time remake looked better than this.

Yes, and the Turtles remake looked awful!

Just finished listening to the latest Retronauts podcast and the Konami guy on there says that the developers are big fans of the series, so I guess I'll give the game a chance. Also, I'm not digging the artwork as well.

Eh. I'm not worried yet, I'd imagine that any screens we're seeing right now are still very much WIP shots.

Looks like it could be fun, and I loved the originals, but the graphics are pretty charmless at the moment.

The only good Sparkster game was Rocket Knight Adventures. Looks like that's not going to change anytime soon.

I think we're just use to the old sprite look... The same was said about "Voltron" 3D television show when it aired. I think Rocket looks great though.

It's good. It's not a classic or even particularly memorable, but it's good. Fun little platformer with good gameplay, but a little on the short side and not all that varied.

I checked out the demo. I didn't think it sucked, but I didn't really like it much. It doesn't look very good. I mean, I like the way the PSP Ghouls N' Ghosts looks, so i'm not against sprites going polygonal. It just looks...eh.

Gameplay-wise, it's OK. It's no RKA or Sparkster(SNES). So, it didn't leave much of an impression on me.

I liked Sparkster on the MD over the Snes....surprisingly.

I downloaded the demo, but I don't have enough points to buy it. Once I get a points card, I'll grab it. I liked the demo, and the art wasn't so bad once you get used to it. It plays like RKA, which is the most important thing.

I haven't tried the demo yet but honestly I really don't like the new art style at all. the new art style just reminds me of a cheaply produced poorly drawn cartoon.

It's a shame you're all writing it off based on (presumably) the demo; the in-engine cutscenes are fantastically animated, with the controller in hand it's like playing a Saturday morning kids' show. The remixed RKA 1-1 level theme and the environmental effects on your rocket pack were nice touches, too.

I'm not a fan of how the developers hooked his sword to his rocket pack, and then did nothing with it; it just felt like one of those 'videogame logic' things that didn't NEED explaining. The controls seemed rather stiff, as well, particularly in later levels where you're aiming to fly through spaces only a few inches wide.

I'm bringing this thread back because Steam is having a sale on it and I got it. Playing with my 6 button controller (usb adapter), it's a pretty rad game. I suggest you guys give it a chance.
