The Sega CD is home to many an underappreciated title, and over the years many great games have sat in silence, awaiting some long-overdue attention. One example is Android Assault: Revenge of Bari-Arm, a fun and engaging shmup that was largely overlooked by gamers at the time (that probably had something to do with it being released right after Silpheed, which was the center of an absurd amount of hype). Aren't you lucky then, that we have a full review (http://www.sega-16.com/review_page.php?id=1028&title=Android%20Assault:%20The%20Revenge%20of%20Ba ri-Arm) to give you an idea of what you missed and why you should find yourself a copy ASAP.

I remember this game. I remember it was easy for some reason, but it did have a few good music tracks that I swiped to MiniDisc when I rented it when it came out back in 1453 (damn, I'm old). I also don't really remember anything bad about the game. I think it'd be worth having, and if I can find it for a good price, I will have it! I don't think it did anything special with the Sega CD besides the music... oh well no huge deal.

Excellent review, Melf. Possibly the most entertaining you've written.
What sort of weapon power-ups exist in this game?

The version I rented had an "Android Assault" title screen, not Bari-Arm.

I don't believe I've ever heard of this game. Then again it's not my type.

This game is great. Lots of fun and a cool soundtrack.

My copy just says "Bari-Arm," at the title screen.

This game looks interesting, the character you play as looks a lot like a Gundam. If I ever see this game, I'll pick it up. Once I get a Sega CD I'm going to need to get some good games for it besides Eternal Champions, Sonic CD, and Silpheed that are exclusives to the system.

Great article.

It's your typical side scroll shooting game, but not bad. It reminds me of Hyper Duel, but that game was kinda tough.

Does anybody know if there's any significant difference between the Japanese and the US versions of this game?

I have to play this one again. I seem to remember that it gets abruptly and ridiculously hard when you hit the last level, but then again, that's typical of a lot of Genny shmups.

Possibly the best sega cd game I've played after Sonic CD. Mind you, I've only played nine so far. That boss in the moon base level is crazy hard. I've only managed to beat it twice.

I was playing this again the other day, and it really did spike in difficulty after stage 3. Awesome game all around though. My favorite Sega CD shmup.

Damn straight, game got real tough in a hurry, and my head was ready to explode when I finally beat the game, but only because of all the patterns I had to memorize in the final three levels.

But I definitely agree with the review in that the levels can get slow, that's for sure.

After reading my old comment on this one, I'd actually say that my opinion remains the same with this one too. It was a great shooter on the Sega CD considering how many options you had on it, and I liked the weapon variety in it too.

Also, I'm glad that Robo Aleste got a 10 on this site, as that's my current favorite Sega CD shmup. :D

Although I played other 16-bit Hori shooters that way surpass Bari arm (Think pc-engine), this one has a certain charm to it.

My initial impression was not good, because i perceived this game as an another run on the mill shooter. But as i played the later levels, It became strangely entertaining. Blame it on the charge attack, cool weapons, huge bosses and the smooth controls.

As for the sound, i hear people rave about the soundtrack, and to be perfectly honest, It's decent, but just not very good.
