View Full Version : Sold all my genesis stuff!

A few weeks ago I listed my entire genesis collection on
craigslist for $200.00. It disappeared within an hour from the time
I listed it until the time the seller picked it up.

My living room is now surprisingly empty.

I used the money to convert my mame cabinet back to jamma
so I could play tetris plus again and possible neo geo in the future.

I guess I'm gravitating toward arcade gaming now.

about 3 weeks ago I traded my vectrex collection for a
countertop machine that's now sitting next to my megatouch.

I guess since I have no more genesis stuff, this could very well
be my last post.

I have actually been contemplating selling my collection as well and going emu-only. Since Kega Fusion is now on the Mac, and plays the games surprisingly well, and since I have both space and monetary restraints at the moment and foreseeable future, it's been a serious thought.

I still enjoy my Genesis. It's my favorite console. But Kega allows me to play all the games I like for free (including ones I can't afford). Emulation never matches real hardware, but it's gotten close enough that I may okay with that.

I have lots of other gaming crap to sell, so that stuff is going first on eBay, and I'll save the Genesis for last as I ponder its future.

Shit... and I am no longer living in Watertown.

I'd have the money too.

I guess I just woke up one day and realized that I no longer
saw the value in keeping that stuff around any longer.

I didn't really play it all that much.
I think I just got overwhelmed with how much of it there was.
I'd just look at this big ass pile of games trying to figure out
what to play only to eventually give up and do something else.

Thankfully, I'm not in any kind of economic distress, or I could
have put it up on ebay and made double what I sold it for without
any real effort.

It took longer to post it on ebay that it did to decide to sell it.

I think the feeling of the overwhelming pile of games carried itself
over to the vectrex as well, but it took much longer to decide what
I wanted to do with it because it's just so unique and cool.
I'm sure I would have played it more if not for the big ass pile of genesis
stuff close by.

I just decided to list it as trade only for a smaller arcade machine.
I was just fishing with that one and it took about 3 weeks until
I got a reasonable offer, but I would have waited as long as it took.

I really didn't feel that way with the genesis.

Guess you need to change your signature then, huh? ;)

Anywho, just because you don't have your SEGA hardware anymore doesn't mean you have to leave. There are still lots of SEGA games you might play on something else, and as someone who USED to have SEGA stuff, your opinion on related topics may still be of interest to folks. So stick around! :D

Man, I don't think I could ever sell my collection. I did get rid of Batman Returns, however, and good riddance.

Yeah, I guess it couldn't hurt to pop back in every so often.

What else am I gonna do when I have nothing else to do?

Can I have your Sinistar avatar?

Go ahead.

Anyway. Here is a picture of the new family.

Shoot, there are tons of people on this forum that never even owned a Genesis, it's not like it stopped them! I may have even joined before I picked up my model 2 Genesis.

Oh, that's right, you were the one that shelled out a couple grand for a touchmaster. Man, should've just got an iPod Touch, they have many of the same games for dirt cheap.

Now that you freed up so much room, time to get an arcade with more than 2 buttons :fail:

I would've kept the system and bought the Neo Myth flashcart, which I am saving up for personally (as well as the TG16 flashcart by the same manufacturer). Sure, I love Kega Fusion, but I love the originals too, and at least the flashcart would save me time and money looking for the original cartridges by allowing me to play ROMs on the original hardware. If that ever interests you, you can simply buy another Genesis for cheap at a thrift store since they are quite abundant in secondhand stores these days. But in the end, it doesn't matter which format you play these games in: remember, even if you go emu-only, as long as you love the Genesis library, you're always welcome here!

It's your property and I don't want to cast judgment on you for selling them but what I would have done is keep the systems, the top games, and sell everything else. This would have made some space while still keeping somewhat of your collection.

Nice arcade stuff though.

Oh that's right, you're the one who thinks he knows everything about arcade gaming just because you own a piece of shit x-arcade stick and play with "romz" on MAME

Take your Apple fanboy propaganda elsewhere troll.

WTF?

So I'm alone in wanting to be able to at least play street fighter II with a MAME cabinet? (I know he converted it back, hence why he would need a new MAME cabinet...with more buttons).

How about you shove your anti-X-Arcade nonsense up your ass. I used Happ controls on an NBA Extreme Hangtime arcade just the other day and they sucked. Granted they were dirty and possibly never serviced, but I could tell the fundamental feel wasn't nearly as good as my X-Arcade. Have you even used one before? no? GTFO.

Apple fanboy propaganda? WTF? I simply suggested an iPod Touch is a cheaper alternative with many of the same/similar games. I could've been a dick and said, "holy fuck! you bought a touchmaster! those things fucking blow donkey balls! what a waste of money! are you fucking retarded?", you know, like something you would say if I had a touchmaster and was saying good things about it.

Well technically, it's a megatouch and I don't remember spending $2000.00 on it.
:p

The x-arcade stick isn't really that bad. The joysticks are roughly comparable
to the happ supers, they could be improved with some decent cherry microswitches though.

I don't think it's really worth what they charge for it, but it seems that
very few consumer grade products are.

17days, you got your x-arcade sticks used for way less, right?

I got the "refurbished" Dual Stick for $99+shipping. You definitely can't tell it was a refurb. Try getting anything remotely decent in the separate stick world for $50...you won't. Most remotely reputable brands are at least $100 for just one stick. You also get a lifetime guarantee, even if you mod it with different joysticks/buttons, try finding THAT from another stick manufacturer. I've used plenty of joysticks including my Namco stick with hori internals (Tekken?), the madcatz SF IV tournament edition fanboy special stick (the really expensive/rare one), another hori stick for XBOX 360, some custom jive funk with an optical American-style stick for 360 (VERY expensive), and others and I'd still prefer the X-Arcade to all of them. Everything about it is just right, you just have to get used to the circle restrictor plate and you're golden. I've never been so consistent with quarter circle moves with any other controller. Best of all, it's solid as fuck so it won't slide around like every other joystick and you can use it with damn near any system from PSX onward.
