We have a guide on how to hook up a 32X to a CDX, but I was thinking we could have more. Maybe some features on how to mod a Genny or how to replace battery backups would be cool.

Thoughts?

I'm all for that. It's almost impossible to find instructions for doing anything with these old systems. When I got a Sega CD a while ago (had to take it back, didn't function), I didn't know how to use it and was unable to find any information how to use or repair the system.

Mod guides would be absolutely wonderful. Lots of pics!

I definitely would like to see a guide on how to change the battery backup. Step by step maybe some pictures.

Yeah, pictures would be a must for a guide like that. That's what made the 32X/CDX guide so cool; he had step-by-step pics for the whole thing.

I'm planning to mod my second Mega Drive 1, with both 60/50Hz switch and the language switch. I can do a guide for it when I do it, with lots of pics.

Please do it! I just wanted to play Shining Force today, and all my savegames have been erased!

I would like to see one on who to fix the Genesis if its broken.

I can write a short battery replacement guide here:

Open the cartridge with a Gamebit 4.5 mm.
Take a notice on how the old battery fits into the cart.
Remove the old battery.
Put VERY LITTLE solder grease on the new battery.
Then solder the battery on the same way the old battery was placed.
Close the cart with Gamebit 4.5 mm.
DONE!

That's how I did with my pal's Warriors of the Eternal Sun cart and it works like new.

108 Stars: No prob! It's very easy, I succeeded in my first try. :)

I would like to do blue LED mods to my Mega Drive and Mega CD (after all, Sega's colour is blue :)). I have model 1 Mega Drive and model 2 Mega CD. Could somebody help me with this, telling me what kind of LEDs to buy and how to do it?

I'm all up ons these hardware how-tos. But what about some software how-tos as well? Not necessarily walkthroughs, but maybe things like general tips, tricks, and strategies? I dunno. I'd read 'em.

I have an idea for some guides:

How to fix loose AC Adaptor on the Genesis 2
How to fix Reset Button

Zebbe

If the reset button is stuck on a model 1, you just have to screw up the screws and open the console. Then remove the reset button and put it back. Maybe you meant something more complicated, David J.?

Nah, that was what I wanted.

FWIW, my Genesis 2 and Genesis 1 systems don't have those problems, well yet anyway...

Great idea - I'd love to know the kinds of paint I can use safely on my Mega Drive's plastic, which sticker-residue-remover is best, the properties of the power LED, etc. Let's rice out the 16-bit beast

I'd offer my services for an in-depth modding guide, but I'd need a console to work on first :/ I could have a crack at a cleaning guide, though - how to keep your console in tiptop shape, cleaning out the rear ventilation holes, how to maintain your controllers, etc. Thoughts?

I'm sure you'd do it better and faster than me.

How to remove scratches? I sanded out a scratch on my Model 1 CD unit and I am clueless on how to repaint the sanded area. The same with my widened cart slot.

Rather than twiddle my thumbs this Bank Holiday Monday, I'll start typing up a 'HOW TO SET UP YOUR STUFF'-type article. How to set up a Mega Drive, how to connect it to the Mega-CD, what to do if there's a problem, possibly the 32X.

We've had that many threads recently - particularly regarding the Mega-CD - I think one article detailing what you need, where to get it, how to set it up, and basic troubleshooting etc. would be a good idea, rather than going through the same old checklist (type of console/video connection/cleaned contacts etc. etc. etc.).

How do you Yanks set up your RF connection? SCART/RCA is pretty simple, I've no idea how your crazy foreign witchcraft TV system works, though.

Such guides are pretty nice... I could write a guide how to make your MD like I have sitting next to my DC...

If I get some time, I'll be writing one, seriously !!! I wonder how big it will be ?

Zebbe

You can probably divide into several features.

TmEE
11-04-2007, 12:36 PM
Region mods, Z80 and 68K overclocking, LED mods, video mods, audio mod, some other coolness mods (i.e the VFD tubes in my MD2)...

Zebbe
11-04-2007, 12:38 PM
Yep, that sounds good. I suggest you begin with the region mods and overclocking mods, they are most popular. Remember to take lots of pics.

Hmm... I need a unmodified MD for that... MD1, and MD2... I need to keep my money for publishing my game so if anyone lives near Estonia and is willing to provide me unmodified MDs for modding, PM me, I'll send them back if you want... a cool modded MD from Mega Drive Modding Master (this title has been given to me, I didn't give it to myself) !!!

A single-page compilation of the degree of compatibility between Genesis models and AC adapters/AV cables would be nice. It would beat searching the forums since they're all scattered about.

I could do a guide on how to use an action replay, by that I mean how to find your own codes.
