I don't really think you need it. It's just plug 'n play really.

It's not really for that... It is actually because I need the list of games that are required to be used with a Master System controller...
Also, it feels good inside to have one.
That is all

Did it actually have that list? I used to have the manual, but I don't remember that list. Although right off the top of my head I can say that:
Wonder Boy in Monster Land
Alien Syndrome
Require the real Master System controller.
These don't work with Gen/MD controllers:
Alien Syndrome
Bomber Raid
Great Volleyball
Montezuma's Revenge
Shanghai
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
Wonder Boy in Monster Land
Tennis Ace

Tennis Ace isn't listed in my manual. But F-16 Fighting Falcon is listed as not working at all with the PBC.

Penguin Land REQUIRES a SMS pad, it doesn't work with any of my Genesis pads.

This is my first contribution to the site actually. I have loads of Swedish commercial ads I'm gonna scan some day in the near future.

No prob! It's always nice to help people.

Great Tennis is pretty crappy. But it's the only SMS tennis game to come to the US. Tennis Ace, Wimbledon, and Wimbledon II all blow it out of the water.

I looked in Google groups and I found a message from 1990 that confirms that too! :O

On the topic of Power Base Convertors
Does anyone know if a European PAL Power Base Convertor would work on a US Genesis?

Probably, since the lock out chips came in '92 and the PBC came years earlier. I even think any 32X works on any G/MD.

I would think so. The only difference I can think of is the shape of the cart slots. Here in Europe the Megadrive has sort of semi-circular slots unlike the Japanese square slots. Either way a PAL convertor will fit an NTSC Genesis but a NTSC convertor wouldn't fit a PAL Megadrive. Well, not without filing the cart slot square aryway. I think it's the cart that tells wether to give out a 50hz (PAL) or 60hz (NTSC) signal & not the actual Genesis/Megadrive hardware. My PAL Megadrive plays Jap games with nothing but a convertor to change the slot shape & nothing else.

The european Mega Drive has the exact same cartridge slot as the Genesis.

Puts that one to bed then.
A quick question. When I use mine I get a humming sound through the speakers. Quite loud as it goes. Enough to interfere with the sound & sometimes a faint line goes from top to the bottom of the screen repeatedly. All the connections are clean. It Sounds like it's taking just a tadge too much power onboard. Could be a corrupt relay in there somewhere I suppose. I've tried it on my Jap unit but still the same. Tried three different power units but to no avail unfortunately.
Any takers?

It only does this on Master System games?

Yep indeedy. Only when the convertor is slotted in wether there is a Master System cart in or not.

The only thing I could suggest is to take the PBC apart and make sure everything is firmly snug inside. If that doesn't work, try getting a new PBC. If that doesn't work, try moving to a different country.
Also, are you using a Mega Drive 1 or 2? How do you have it attached to your TV?

It's a Mk1 Megadrive connected to the tele via an RF cable. Im not too bothered because I have a Mk1 Master System & a Master System convertor for my Game Gear. I'd just be nice if it worked properly. I think I'll take it apart & check it out. Could be just a build up of crap in there causing it to over heat or just generaly cause a disruption.

There are two small components inside that plug into each other. Pull them apart and put them back together and make sure they're snug. Is the RF cable hooked up to the MegaDrive's RF jack, or is it some kind of RF adapter that hooks up to the 9-pin A/V jack?

The RF cable goes straight into the tele from the base unit. What I'm going to do is grab a small, soft wire brush & do every connection inside & out of both the units. Over time the copper interfaces corrode so maybe that's the trouble. I've never had a cart from eBay I haven't used some wet & dry paper on yet, just to take the top layer off.
