It's just another matter of shaking your head when people do stupid things. It happens a lot. For example, last night's 20/20 story about a community that believes they are "real" vampires. Classic.

I liked Warcraft and Warcraft 2 especially, but there is absolutely no way that I'm ever playing WoW. I don't like MMORPGs at all, I just don't get it. It all seems so tedious and boring, when I want to play a game, I want action, blood, guts and action. Now people are paying other people to play FOR them? I guess some people need people to live their other life for them. This is retarded.

I don't think I would want to play WoW for that long, even if I was getting payed.

I dunno, there are worse jobs out there, and in China it probably beats the hell out of manual labor assembly line jobs in both pay and personal comfort.

On that note, I think getting paid is the only way I would ever play WOW.

To sum that game up in one word: tedium.

Indeed. I can't stand doing things over and over again like that.
One of my friends got me a copy and membership or whatever(before the first expansion pack came out) a while back as a birthday gift.
I will admit that I tried to get interested in it though. I mostly just ran around and explored until something killed me.

I'm a C&C guy, so no WoW for me.

We got C&C Renegade...it's a fair trade.

I think I could enjoy something similar to WOW, like a GTA version where you build up a crime network or something in a virtual city, but as it is, I just don't like the source material. Middle Ages fairies and pixie dust is gay as it gets.

Fantasy is okay in small doses. Just not full out LARP and all that. Those people fuck up any redeeming quality. I'm more of a Phantasy Star guy myself. PSO to be exact. I don't know what it is about a portable MMORPG that really intrigues me.
I think we can all agree that Steampunk is where it's at though.

I get the draw of WOW, powering up your characters and individualizing them to fit your play style can be great fun. It's certainly the reason I love Modern Warfare 2 so much. I just don't get the level of obsession.

Honestly, I'm a nerd. After partying downtown last night (Chargers 50th Anniversary Block Party!) I came home and sunk three hours into Final Fantasy 12, slept for four, and got ready for work. It just seems like WOW is on a whole different level. I can't imagine sinking that much time into a game.

Chinese gold farming has been around since the dawn of MMORPGs.

Yeah, this is old news. This dates back to the days of Diablo.

it's so funny though, I mean, Blizzard could just do this themselves like so many other MMORPGS do (at least the shitty "free" and then pay as you play stuff). I can't believe there's not some way to just hack it and get gold rather than having to have someone sit at a computer and mine for hours on end.

Why potentially remove what would ensure players 'requiring' more game time, & make anything 'bought' in game, become 'A Welfare Epic'? You post this thread as if it's something new, whereas it's been there since the beginning of MMOs.

China & South Korea have teams dedicated to farming servers through US proxys in order to avoid IP banning, they even offer to 'power level' your character which involves giving them your account logins, and usually results in 'theft'. There are US based farming companies as well. They're more reliable, and charge a few bucks more.

The worst thing about WOW now is the gold farmers, they 'spam' in game chat like you wouldn't believe, and Blizzard can't stop them. Your character is sand boxed to a particular realm's server cluster, and 'hacking' it is ridiculous.

If you want to complain about prices, don't play it on official servers. There's popular free server alternatives to play WoW unofficially/illegally. Some of them even pride themselves on maintaining the gameplay balance & support.

translation: I didn't really understand the point of this thread, so I will use this opportunity to yell at you.

newsflash: I DON'T NOR EVER HAVE NOR EVER WILL PLAY WORLD OF WARCRAFT. I saw that video randomly in a "related videos" sidebar when watching a game review or something. Why would I give a shit how much it is? I'm just saying that Blizzard could profit off of this rather than going "OMGZ, U GUYZ! TEHY ARE SELLING TEH GOLDZ!" There's no complaining about it.

I think Sega-16's new slogan should be "Sega-16, if talking to a brick wall is your cup of tea, you're home!"

Do you know what the real injustice with this story is?

The fact that this was the fu*king BBC 6'o clock news... on BBC1!! There are rapes and murders going on, everyday heros are pulling children out of burning buildings, and this is the FEATURE-PIECE! Oh dear, oh dear.

Well, breaking the established gameplay by factoring in real-money 'cheating' sounds good on paper.

Don't you think 11million people at $15 a month would be a formula not worth 'fucking with'?
That question is nothing new, you're about '5 years behind' pertaining to your observational epiphany.

I know you don't play WoW, but I pointed out that cost can be avoided altogether if you (or anybody) choose to ever do so.

You're the most bitter drama queen on these forums.

The only MMO I've ever played was Star Wars: Galaxies. It really had a great economy based system in place, and you could even be a mayor of a city. Then WOW came along and denizens of other MMO players moved on to it. Sony totally destroyed how SWG played (to compete with WOW) and made it possible for everyone to be a Jedi. I called it quits a couple of months later.
