Every time a company tinkers with an arcade classic, my heart sinks. Lamentably, it seems to have hit solid bedrock with Paperboy 2, a game that tries to improve upon a formula that needed no tweaking at all. The result? Pure mediocrity. Our complete write up (http://www.sega-16.com/2006/03/paperboy-2/) has all the details.

For what it's worth, my grandma really really liked this game.

I don't know why, but I laughed when I read this. Thanks for making my day!

The only thing Tengen did right was Tetris and they got sued and Nintendo stole it for a while.

Paperboy 2 was a big disappointment compared to the original. The perspective just sucks. I never did try Paperboy 64 though, does anyone know how that is?

Was this the only Paperboy game on the Genesis? I seem to remember renting one that had a ton of decent-quality voices in it. But looking at the pics in the review, I certainly don't remember the top-down missions or the right-side missions. Those stages would piss me off. If this is the only Paperboy game for the Genesis, perhaps I just got sick of it and turned it off before I got to those stages.

I played it briefly once, years ago. I don't remember many details aside from the fact that it was enjoyable, and that there was a fair amount you could do with regard to puttering around the 3D environment (jumps and such).

..and Joe, Paperboy in its classique form exists for the Genesis in addition to Paperboy 2.

Anything I can do to help. :D

But I'm being serious. When I was a kid, my Genesis stayed at my grandparent's house (a ten-minute drive from my house, luckily) and my grandma and mom would always play Ms. Pac-Man and Paperboy 1 and 2 for hours. Back then I thought it was totally normal to have older relatives that played video games...
