Anyone playing any genesis games on their psp? The only working genesis emulator doesn't have sound at the moment, so it's not perfect but i've been enjoying playing games I don't own such as M.U.S.H.A and Twinkle Tale on there. I also have snes and pc engine emulators on there. The pc engine one seems to work the best.
Emulation has to be the single best reason to get a PSP right now. As soon as the kinks are worked out, and MAME, Kega, and Magic-Engine run flawlessly; I will definitely be getting one.
Howo do they look on the PSP's screen?

How sad. Anyone that wants a portable for emulation purposes could've/should've bought a GP32 two years ago. From the sound of it, people out to get emu on the go should still opt for GP32 over PSP.

I personally think they look great. You can choose to play the games on the orignal screen they were played on play them in widescreen. The genesis and turbo ones look less than perfect but still good in wide screen. The snes ones look perfect in widescreen as far as I can tell.
You can also get nes and sms emulators if you want but I havn't tried those ones yet. And yeah, emulation is pretty much the only reason to justify buying a psp at the moment. The only game I really wanted for the is Ys and that has been pushed back to fall. But if you want to play a bunch of 8 and 16 bit games on a handheld with a great screen it's worth buying.

How do they play on the GP32? That might be a cheaper option for portable emulation.
Also, does its library merit a purchase as a stand-alone console? I'm not really up to speed on the GP32.

GP32 has some near-perfect emulators of NES, SMS/GG, Genesis, Turbo, and SNES.

I couldn't tell you. I stopped paying attention to the system some time ago; I'm not even sure if games still come out for it or not. It does have a bit of a homebrew community though.

But what about arcade? If PSP pulls off MAME then it's a must-buy.
Hell yes. That alone would almost make me max out my CC.
What about the firmware update? I've heard that it would make emulation impossible. Is this true?

As of right now you need a 1.50 firmware PSP as 1.51, 1.52, & 2.00 haven't been hacked yet. The latest edition of the Genny emu is about perfect, and the NeoGeo CD emu is a thing to behold! In fact there's even a DS emu being worked on for the PSP, LMAO!
As to the comment about Emulation being the only reason to own a PSP right now I gotta disagree as Ridge Racers, Wipeout Pure, Lumines, & Darkstalkers are 4 really great games that are totally worth owning, with THUG 2 Remix, Twisted Metal, Hot Shots Golf, MLB, & Metal Gear Acid being good games to checkout as well. And with the promise of games like GTA: LCS, Death Jr., FF7: AC, Burnout Legends, Madden 06, Virtua Tennis, NBA Live 06, Daxter, & Viewtiful Joe VFX all in the next 3 months I'd say owning a PSP is pretty sweet IMO.

I guess we know where the administrator stands on the politics of emulation ;) Are we free to speak about ROMS on this site? If you have a FAQ on this, I'll look it up.
As for the topic, a successor to the GP32 is here: http://www.gpx2.com
Takes 2 AA batteries. Anybody with electronics knowledge, or at least a calculator can say that this blows any chance of this being backlit, WTF?
GP32 BLU from what I've read is still the way to go for portable emu while old firmware PSP's are hot as hell.

i used to run the emulators on my psp but gave up after a while. megadrive games worked great, but yeah, no sound. also to get them running smoothly the emulator overclocks the psp processor by half its normal running speed (no problem to the hardware as this is the original spec speed) so consequently killing a full charge in about an hour-i tested this playng robocop vs terminator-fun, but my battery was dead and my psp was hot................
i now get my megadrive fix by playing my megaadrive (oddly enough)if you want SEGA goodness on the go....get a nomad, get a game gear, even a gba-lots of ports etc.
the psp's a great system and i have may games for it-but until sony throw a wink at sega (like nintendo and microsoft are doing for thier virtual arcades) it's just too much trouble, time, and hassle to emulate...........
