I bought this off Ebay and received it today. :) I played it tonight and instantly fell in love with it. Originally my primary motivation for getting it was that it was a high-profile collector's item for the Genesis. I didn't expect this to be such a high quality shooter as well. I'm mean, I knew there was a lot of praise for this game but actually putting it through its paces really hit home how amazing it looks, sounds and plays. I urge those of you who haven't already to track a copy down. It'll be worth every penny you pay for it.

It is a nice game, one of my favorite overhead shooters. I like it because it doesn't try to be difficult just for the sake of being difficult like so many other shooters.

How much did you get it for, out of curiosity?

Is a good game, but there's a lot of better shoot'em ups on the Sega Genesis, Compile shooters became a bit overrated nowadays, to put an example, MUSHA is a better game than Zero Wing but Thunder Force 4 or Same Same Same are much better than MUSHA IMO, but those two games are not praised at the same level of MUSHA by Genesis gamers.
MUSHA is one of the best shooters on the Megadrive, but it doesn't worth the money that people is asking for, is not even "rare" so i dont know why the high prices the game is fetching on places like ebay, i think TF4, Fire Shark, Darius or Super Fantasy Zone should cost a lot more but these are much cheaper than MUSHA.

And Thunder Force 4 or Gleylancer destroy MUSHA, well i would't say "destroy" but those are better games for shure.

Wow, that's a rather tepid response to an awesome shooter. :?: :daze: MUSHA has excellent music, visuals and gameplay. This shooter has a bit more depth than most shooters on the megadrive. You can acquire these helper bots (someone can give me the technical name for these guys) that can be set to various offensive formations like fire forward, backwards, spread shot, cycle shot, seek out and destroy, etc. They also act as a kind of shield defense to the main ship. If enemy fire hits a bot, it'll be destroyed but the main ship will remain intact. This allows you at times to be grazed by enemy fire and still survive although a direct hit will still destroy the main ship. A store of bots can be acquired by shooting various floating capsules so it allows quite a bit of leeway in both offense strike and defense. In combination with this you have the usual standard fire along with acquiring several special weapons each with 4 upgrades available. The creative design and variety of enemies you face is also quite amazing. All in all, MUSHA is the best shooter I own and I've got most of the great ones including Lightening Force.

"Options" would be the proper term.

Now that's funny, although I do like me some Truxton, an underrated game to be sure.

M.U.S.H.A. has got to be one of the greatest shmups of all time. Its followup for the Sega CD, Robo Aleste, is very good indeed, but inferior to the original IMO. I got my M.U.S.H.A. mint and CIB for $60; how much did all you M.U.S.H.A. fans get yours for? And, who here has beaten the game? I'm about ready to tear my hair out over that last boss stage...

My other three fave shmups are blasphemously on the NES, and they'd be Gyruss, Gun Nac and RECCA (man, would I have loved to see a 16-bit version of these on the Genesis).

Excellent game, never gets boring and it had some really impressive effects for the time too. I have to say that both Spriggan for the Turbo CD and Super Aleste for SNES manage to top it, in graphics and gameplay respectively. They are later titles though and I definitely prefer the music in MUSHA.

I just played Super Aleste (or Space Megaforce as they called it over here apparently, a silly American retitling if I've ever heard one) on my PSP for the first time after reading about it in this thread, and it's damn good too. GG Aleste and GG Aleste 2 (aka Powerstrike 2) on the Game Gear are no slouches either. And I didn't know the first two games in this series, Aleste and Aleste 2 (aka Powerstrike and Powerstrike 2) were on the SMS. I prefer the Game Gear versions to the SMS versions, and MUSHA Aleste and Super Aleste over them all, including Robo Aleste. What a great series of shmups, rivaled only by the Thunder Force series.

Man, I gotta say the Game Gear games had damn good graphics for a handheld back then. Playing those games on a better hardware unit really shows them off well. I'm loving the GG Aleste games on the PSP!

I'm not a big fan of Super Aleste for the simple fact that most of the stages are just too long. That first stage seems to go on forever. It's a decent game but I like MUSHA's and Blazing Lazers/Gunhed's pacing a lot better.

Robo Aleste is a good game, but it's not as visually impressive as M.U.S.H.A.. Not even close to the same amount of parallax scrolling. THe graphics are about on par (maybe a bit better), but it doesn't have the "WOW!" factor M.U.S.H.A. does. The stages are also noticeably longer, and can feel drawn out at times. The music is also good, with a kind of disco/electonica/pop feel to it.

It's not a bad game at all. It's fun and worth getting without a doubt. But it's no M.U.S.H.A. (IMHO of course).

MUSHA Aleste is superb, but it definitely isn't the only perfect shmup on Mega Drive / Genesis (http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showpost.php?p=175525&postcount=8).

Regarding the other Aleste games: I love Robo Aleste too, and personally I prefer the Master System Aleste / Power Strike games over the GG Alestes.

My bro was one of the few who bought MUSHA when it came out in the 90's at Babbage's I believe. He was into the the SHUMPS, but I was too young to be any good at them. I remember one Christmas, he bought me TFIII. I barely played it- it was more of a purchase for himself. Bastard. I think I wanted that piece of trash Fatal Labyrinth. It all worked out in the end though.

I just bought a complete M.U.S.H.A. off Ebay. Won a bid in the last 3 seconds. Cost me $86.53 USD.

Musha is visually impressive? Musha was great, but it wasn't visually impressive per se. It's just that it's a Compile game, and pretty much everything is great about the game (music, graphics, gameplay, design, etc). Can't really go wrong with Compile shmups.

I admit, Robo Aleste wasn't "incredible" or anything either, visually for the time. But it was an awesome game all around. I'd say it looks better than Musha too, if by a little bit at minimum. I actually like Robo Aleste better (it's like a cross between Spriggan and Musha), but Musha is a great game too.

For a 1990 Genesis vertical shmup, it was impressive (IMHO of course). In fact, not too many 2-D vertical shmups since have had the visual depth M.U.S.H.A. has. I mentioned the parallax scrolling specifically, as that's a big part of what made it so. There were also the nice touches of enemies falling to the ground below (via rough scaling), stages that transitioned (such as the cloud stage), and even some foreshadowing (when you pass over the large enemy battleship below you, and then fight it on the next stage).

Tack on the music, the nicely handled 4Mb graphics, the number of stages and so forth, and I'd say it was an impressive early Genesis shmup.
