Doesn't matter if it's restricted to region or game contents, like say a US cart and box collection.

Good luck on getting Spiderman! Without sacrificing an arm and a leg... I'm working on my collection. All i have so far is...
Doom
Mortal Kombat 2
Metal Head
Star Wars Arcade
Virtua Fighter
Virtua Racing
WWF Raw (it was cheap and in the case)
NBA Jam (in box)
Shadow Squadron
I think that's it so far.... from memory....

^Here's what I have:
After Burner (w/ box and manual)
Doom x2 (w/box and manual, w/box and manual)
Golf Magazine Presents 36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples (sealed)
Metal Head (w/box and manual)
Mortal Kombat II (w/ box)
Shadow Squadron (w/box and manual)
Star Wars Arcade (w/box and manual)
Tempo (w/box and manual)
Virtua Fighter (w/box and manual)
Virtua Racing Deluxe (w/box and manual)
10 titles in total.
I'm gonna just cut open a flap in the plastic on Fred Couples Golf on the top, no need to get rid of it all. :)
I would be at 17 32X games (all with boxes and manuals except for MKII) if not for a deal going bad... I don't want to get into details, not because of shipping, but because I had to send the games back... :(

Mmm... Love those boxed 32X games... Thanks for the pic! :D
I notice one game in particular is in bad shape, that being Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure... I notice 32X boxes seem to be susceptible to sun fade, my Mom (who worked with printing at one point) says that Yellow can fade very easily.
... I actually do have another request for you (since you are actively posting). If you line those games up on a shelf with only their sides showing, think you could snap a pic?

Pitfall came in a lot of games I got off eBay. It was obvious that this lot was stored in a cardboard box in a very moist basement for years. The musty smell if finally gone, but the box looks awful. Sadly, I haven't found a reasonably priced replacement so I still have it.

How can people store these games in some wet old basement? This lot of 10 32X games I bought probably had the same storage conditions, but were in FAR worse shape... So bad I had to return them, they were just a health hazard!
Still looking for more 32X games as they pop up on eBay...

Those yellow spines look amazing on a shelf... I think Yellow is my favorite color. Thanks a bunch for posting that pic too! :)
I probably won't ever get a complete 32X collection because some of those games ARE actually bad and I don't go out of my way to buy bad games - not to mention Spiderman costs a small fortune - but I do have a lot of other 32X games on my wish list.

Ah, so you obviously haven't yet played the 32X versions of BC Racers, Cosmic Carnage or Moto Cross. A lot of them are so like their regular Genesis bretheran that they don't really deserve to be in a yellow box. Cosmic Carnage is probably the absolutely worse game I've ever owned. No really, it's barely even playable.

Eh, I wouldn't want to deprive someone of their chance to add another game to their sealed 32X collection, no matter how evil that practice is (games are meant to be played). Especially when opened copies are much easier to find.
That and Primal Rage doesn't seem that appealing to me...

Well you got past the hard part, with the exception of Blackthorne and the international exclusives if you want those. Other than that, the only games that are hard to find are the lesser known Genesis ports like Primal Rage, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure and so forth. Everything past that is easy.
I'll say from where you are, $300 or $400 is what it'd likely cost to get the other games you want. Not specific by any means but a general ballpark. :|

Aarzak

32XCD port? There wasn't gon' be a 32XCD port foo'.
Primal Rage 32X was alright. Its in the same vain as MK2 32X (both of which were ported by Probe); 32X handles the character sprites, life bars, text and the foreground and some sfx, while the Genesis handles the music, backgrounds and other sfx. It was the best port of PR on cart, and the best out outside of the PC port if you wanted to avoid the load times of the 3DO/Playstation/Saturn ports.

To be honest, I think the love (or hate) people had for the 32x back in the mid 90s had a lot to do with the Games that they bought from the start.
I'm pretty pleased with the (tiny) library of games we had gotten back in those years and all of them were enjoyable. One of my other friends however had also bought a 32x after I did, and he didn't like it as much. (He was dumb and bought Motocross.)

WHAT!? LOL I have both of them and while Brutal has it's shortcomings CC is the worst 32X game by far. I hold Sega to higher standards than Game Tek and Sega let me down with turd of game that looks, sounds and plays worse than Eternal Champions.

What I mean is that EC was the last fighting game Sega had done on the Genesis and then they allowed CC to be ab early game for the 32X and it was simply AWFUL and I mean the worst 32X game I have ever played. I thought Moto Cross was a bad game but it did offer me sum fun. (very little.)

BC Racers would seriously compete for the worst 32X game, but Cosmic Carnage would have to win the prize by a nose.

Web of Fire is okay, nothing outstanding. Blackthorne and Shadow Squadron are probably the most overlooked and underloved 32X games, both are great. Virtua Fighter and Virtua Racing are superior to their Genesis and Saturn sequels.

After I got my 32X in 98 and started buying games Sega made me wonder about their quality control with that system or lack thereof. There are some good games for it but a majority of them are mediocre to terrible. Blackthorne showed what a 3rd party game could like when it was built from the ground up on the 32X.

That said, don't you think Blackthrorne could have been done on Genesis just as well? I really like the game, but I never understood why they felt the need to make it a 32X exclusive (as far as Sega machines anyway). Shadow Squadron was another one that deserved a wider audience, it should have at least been ported to Saturn.

Shadow Squadron DID make it to the Saturn, but they made it a Japan-only exclusive. Texture-mapped, 16:9 aspect, 14 missions, some of them were pretty epic too. My favorite missions were 3 that took place around a Terra-formed Venus. Some pretty cool level design overall. HOWEVER, I would not call the Saturn Version an improvement. You spend WAAAAAAY too much time in auto-pilot, and WAAAAAAY too much time is spent listening to your wingmates chatter away in moonspeak.

If you want the foreign titles Darxide and Sangokushi IV, be prepared to drop a cool grand a piece for each of them. Definitely not worth it. FIFA Soccer is relatively common.

I agree, Seems a few of the 32X games could have been made for Genesis, but instead were forced onto the 32X. BlackThorne, Spiderman, Cosmic Carnage. Unlike Knuckles Chaotix or Kolibri which are also 2D, but the colors on them really look great. Definitely couldn't be done on genesis.

I have a full US set, and the only game I'm missing for a world set is FIFA '96. The row in the center containing the duplicates of Blackthorne and Knuckles Chaotix are all sealed. Don't even ask what those two PAL games each cost. You will cry. And Sangokushi IV used to be worth about $300-400 (when I bought mine) but there was a guy a few months ago who had seven copies of the game that he posted one after the other and flooded the market which brought the value down to about $100-150 (for the moment).

Insane... Simply insane... That is probably the most complete 32X collection ever. I think all you're missing is PAL Primal Rage (if it even exists), FIFA '96 like you said and Virtua Fighter Training Pack, though that's a promotional item.

The PAL Primal Rage is up on eBay right now being sold by the same guy from whom I bought DarXide and T-Mek. But he wants no less than $1700 for it which is more for it than it is really worth (closer to $1300 by its last sell price I saw). So I'll wait for the next one to pop up. I have passed up a few FIFA 96's in the past. I definitely plan to purchase the next one I see in good condition. And I don't care about that promo pack. It's on eBay all the time, but I collect games not random game related trinkets.

SpaceFlea
04-28-2010, 05:38 PM
The copy of T-Mek that I bought was actually the first one I had ever seen. But there was also another cart only one up at the same time I bought mine if I recall. According to some other forum rumblings the game had only been fabled to exist until it showed up on eBay a few years back. But who knows, you can't really gauge value on random jabber. I knew it was mighty rare and I snagged it - enough said. So to answer the question I have seen two copies of T-Mek. Primal Rage I have now seen twice. One sold on eBay 3/14/08 for $1319.11 (yes, I documented it) and the other one just sold for about $1457 (which is far less than the conversion to dollars told me it was prior to its sale - ie. I would have payed that - I thought it was at $1700). I'm hoping the guy who bought it doesn't pay so I'll end up getting it (so sayeth the seller). And even though I would have payed $1450, I still think he over paid for it. Kind of silly huh. Only time will tell for these things.

I suppose if these would constitute the going price over the past five years (My obsessiveness burning bright!):
10/27/05 - $1225
06/20/07 - $732 (The seller seemed shady so I only bid $600 on this one, and I guess many others felt as I too)
07/19/07 - $1336 (The previous one resold by the buyer a month later for massive profit) :(
03/14/08 - $1420 (The last one on eBay until the one I purchased a month ago - I checked every day, though I could have missed one)
Then mine would be... for the going price. I paid less than the last one sold, but a bit more than the cheapest one :). I wish I had gotten that one at $732, that guy made bank. And some might find it silly that I keep track of the prices as I do, but it helps me legitimize my spending habits :).

It's a pretty scarce game, so I wouldn't expect for it to go cheaply...Nothing wrong with keeping track of prices. Somebody has to do it, and I'm interested in hearing what this stuff goes for on average.
I wonder how many copies of Darxide were made, especially compared to Web of Fire. Now that would be interesting.

I think it's pretty obvious Darxide is more rare than Web of Fire. The logistics more than prove it alone. Web of Fire is based on Spider-Man, making it at least somewhat popular right from the start (I know, a bit of a stretch) and it was only released in North America which is a better exclusive region to be in than Europe. There are just simply more consumers in NA, plain and simple. I've barely ever seen Darxide, in any form, but I've seen more than a few collections with Web of Fire.

You guys definitely need to get Kolibri. I feel so sad any time I see a collection without it. It is the best game for the console and is such a wonderful experience (at least it was 15 years ago when I last played it). If my 32X collection had to slim down to one game, I would pick Kolibri.

It was I who bought the Primal Rage copy, but I haven't received it yet. I agree that I overpaid for it, but there was some reasoning behind it. I gave a best offer of £850 on T-Mek and waited for about 1½ day for the seller to either accept or decline it (the decision limit is two days). If he declined it, I planned to make another best offer of £925-950 or so. But instead, he took your offer of £900 immediately, without giving me a chance to "bid" over. For the Primal Rage copy, I wanted to be sure to get it, so my best offer was £950 the first time and he accepted it a few hours before the decision time was over.

I guess it's true what they say; rare =/= valuable. You'd think given how scarce PAL Primal Rage and T-Mek are, they'd be worth at least $10,000 complete. According to SpaceFlea he's only seen two copies of each. That's just insane.
SpaceFlea

That seller was a pretty immoral fellow in his selling technique. You should probably avoid him any further. He told me what your best offer was on T-Mek and Primal Rage so I could outbid you if I wanted. I actually didn't even know he had posted T-Mek until he emailed me with your offer on it. After I won DarXide it almost seemed like he wanted everything to go to the same person. And the only reason I didn't out bid you on Primal Rage was, as I said before, my currency conversion indicated it would be upwards of $1700 after shipping but it turns out it was only $1500. And I figured the person bidding on it was putting up some desperate win-at-any-cost price (because I had beaten them on the last one) that I didn't want to get involved. Anyhow, its better you won it. And I'm really glad it went to someone here rather than some stupid investor who has just been scanning all the recent yahoo articles on valuable games hoping to make a buck. I'm trying to buy a house and after spending $1350 on DarXide, $1450 on T-Mek, and $1100 on the sealed Daytona NetLink in a one month period I'm pretty set back in that quest. But I finally have some ultimate gems in my collection. I'll be on top of the next Primal Rage that shows up though. If you spot one, let me know.

blackthorne
pitfall: mayan adventure
spiderman: web of fire

Star Trek Academy shouldn't be too hard, I see the box for sale often enough. It's definitely the cheapest out of the bunch. The rest of them are really expensive CIB.

Thankfully most of the good games can be had fairly cheaply. Check my collection. So far the most I've spent is $20 for Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000. However, some stuff like After Burner I purchased in a big lot of stuff, so I didn't exactly pay market value for a few of my games.

The last games I purchased back in 2007 were Chaotix 14.99 and T-Mek 11.99 both were CIB from Great Escape. And they have been here since 1978 and they sale a decent amount of older games.

Definitely an impressive collection, I'd love to have Darxide and Romance IV sitting on my shelf.
Not trying to hijack the thread but I have a bunch of new 32X Virtua Training packs I'm selling off for cheap if anybody wants one.
Out of curiousity...why would you pay $1450 for a euro T-Mek when the US version is supposedly region-free? I'm assuming the purple box version is wicked rare or something...

My somewhat less impressive collection, for anyone who's interested:
Euro PAL:

Fifa '96 (Complete)
36 Great Holes Starring Fred Couples (Complete)
Knuckles Chaotix (Cart)
Kolibri (Cart)

Virtua Fighter (Complete)
US:

After Burner (Complete)
Shadow Squadron (Complete)
Space Harrier (Cart, box)
Star Trek Starfleet Academy (Cart)
Tempo (Complete)
Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 (Cart, Manual)
JPN:
Super 32x (system only - it originally had an AC adaptor but I muddered it with idiocy :/)
After Burner (Complete - don't ask me why I have all 3 versions of this, it just happened)
Cyber Brawl (Complete)
Parasquad (Complete)
Sangokushi IV (Complete, w. map)
Space Harrier (Complete)
Virtua Racing Deluxe (Complete)
I got my Sangokushi, plus all the above Jp 32x games (except Parasquad) and console, for £60ish inc. shipping from Japan. Probably one of my better evilbay auction wins :) My Fifa 32x only cost £1.50, too. I am still jealous of SpaceFlea. ;)

Well, honestly, why would anyone buy T-Mek to play period ;). Its only purpose really is as a collectors item. And you are correct, the PAL version of T-Mek is one of the rarest officially released games around. Definitely near the top for SEGA collecting.
Also, while Darxide is sketchy, I could justify paying $100-$150 for a Romance IV. Does that seller have any left?
What is sketchy about DarXide :? - it's quite a gem? Again, purchases such as these aren't for play. They are as collectors items. If I ever find the time, perhaps, but that is doubtful.
That seller sold every last one last I checked. When he got to selling about the 5th or 6th one - that when I asked him how he came upon so many copies of such a rare game. I can't remember how he said he acquired them, but he said that he only had one more copy left after that one. So he ended up selling either 6 or 7 of them. The first one he listed sold for around $250, but by the last one they were only selling for around $100-125. If he would have spaced them out over a decent amount of time he could have made so much more, but he listed them back to back each week.

Those are indeed both nice purchases :ok:. My best 32X purchase was Spider-Man for about $60 complete when it was already regularly selling for well over $100. Though that was back when I had no money and the patience to wait for deals.

Euro 32X fans have it rough, so don't feel too bad. The 32X fared the best in the US, so that's the region with the most consumer friendly values. Maybe you could start importing?

"Enhanced" was kind of a stretch. They have a larger color palette though. They are all FMV games so the video quality is still about the same as a Sega CD game. It would have been interesting to see what they could have accomplished had they made a fully developed but more conventional game (not FMV at least) on CD/32X.

With the introduction of the CD format FMV really took off mostly because the format provided the storage space. If you think about it, it was a pretty incredible innovation at the time. At that point in history, Sega was all about trying new things and charting new territory. Some of that was good and some not so good.
There actually are quite a few FMV games that are fun and entertaining and actually play pretty well as games in general. I've actually had a whole lot of fun with games like Sewer Shark, Ground Zero Texas and Corpse Killer. Greatest games ever made? Nope, but fun nonetheless. That Digital Pictures intro theme and logo are permanently burned into my brain!
