I finally got around to using the headphones on the model 1 and holy cow what a difference it makes! In most of the games I've tried with the headphones, I can clearly hear the stereo sound seperation especially with the music. Even though I have a stereo jack mod on the system, I could barely if ever hear any sound seperation coming from the television. With headphones the system audibly comes alive. There's no going back. I'm forever spoiled. :D

yea, you can also plug in a nice speaker system into the headphone jack.

the Streets of Rage series is mind blowing with headphones. I don't think anything else sounds as dramatically different.

If you get a nice sound system and separate the speakers far enough away from each other (while still keeping them level with each other), you can get a good stereo experience from your Genesis/Mega Drive.
It's still not as easy to hear the stereo difference or as inexpensive as headphones, but who here plays Mega Drive by his or herself? True Genesis/MD users share the Sega goodness with others.
I have everything connected to my HiFi, including my headphones :P
headphones are the most inexpensive means to get nice stereo, and if the headphones are any good, then good sound also.

You can get an RC to mini adapter for a couple bucks at Radio Shack. That should let you use the headphone jack out and then plug it into the composite jacks on your TV or receiver to hear the system in Stereo. I haven't got around to it yet, but when I finally do start chiseling away at all these Sega CD games I definitely will.

I used to do this as a kid. I would set the genesis near the bed and plug some headphones in and play all night w/o my mom ever knowing. Good times.

That's what I did. I plugged my HDG Model 1 into a nice computer speaker + subwoofer setup, and it really thumps. Sounds absolutely fantastic in my little game room at the back of the house. :)

I've only got an X'eye and I don't think those have headphone ports.
I do use headphones when I play games on emulators though. Castlevania Chronicles(X68000) and Dracula X: Rondo of Blood are amazing
Phantasy Star IV sounds fantastic with headphones on.
A Genesis with headphones on and plugged into a pair of speakers at the same time sounds Godly.
