Here we are again with another edtion of Lost in the Arcade, taking a glimpse at those titles that we expected to see on our Genesis consoles but sadly didn't. This time, we look at the games left behind by Data East, and there are more than a few gems that should rightfully have taken their place in the Genesis library. Read the full article (http://www.sega-16.com/forum/../Lost%20in%20the%20Arcade-%20Data%20East%20Games.htm) and prepare for the warm feeling of nostalgia to overtake you.

Indeed. They rocked for a long time. And then....

Edit: Btw rohga (roger?) plays beautifully on Mame32 0.104

Really? I have MAME32 Plus .99 and it locks up on about the fifth stage. I'll have to download that version and see if it (and a few others) work better.

Melf, thank you for helping me remember the name of Night Slashers! I couldn't remember the name of this game for the life of me. Yeah, your also right about how horrible the music was. The arcade center I used to go to had all of their arcade machine's volume at full blast, so I sure as heck couldn't forget Night Slasher soundtrack. Also, Rohga was released on the japanese PS and Saturn under the name Wolf Fang. I have the game on the PS (Hamster re-release) and I found it to be a pretty mediocre game. Oh well, great article.

I thought Wolf Fang was the Saturn version of Vapor Trail. The music is sure similar.

You're probably thinking of Vapor Trails sequel Skull Fang. I get the two mixed up sometimes too.

I was obsessed with the Real Ghostbusters game as a kid. Myself and two of my Ghosthead friends would always go up to the local Major Magic's and beat it repeatedly.

There was a version for the Amiga, I believe, so there's no excuse to not have a Genesis version. :D

I love these kinds of articles. Thanks for all the information -- out of all those games, I had only heard of two of them! It really makes you wish some of these had seen home ports... especially since the company is out of business :(

Does anyone know who owns the rights to Data East's catalog nowadays?

Data East died in 2003. However... Data East's intellectual properties were acquired on February 2004 by G-Mode, a Japanese mobile game content provider.

I'm reminded of when Thurstmaster exited the PC controller market to focus on communication software and hardware, and then where bought out by another company and they then merged or something.
