Anything you could use it for? I still have my trusty PSOne laying around. I can use my PS2 of course to play PS1 games, but just wondering what ideas can you suggest in regards to using them for anything else? Just as a backup?

I keep my small PSone around because of how small it is and it has it's own screen. So less shit getting connected to my timebomb-looking TV is a good thing.

My 1st model PS1 gets used for nostalgia purposes.

Maybe modchip it? I think thats the easiest way to play psx "backups" versus trying to do it on a ps2.

You're missing half the boot screen every time you fire up a PS1 game on a PS2!

See that whole amazing, complete Playstation intro? You won't see it on your PS2. Nothing puts you into the right mind set to play a Playstation game more than this. Nothing STILL says "Playstation" to me more than seeing this before starting up Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, Twisted Metal, or Final Fantasy VII.

If you do get rid of it, someday you'll be playing your PS1 games on PS2 or PS3 and suddenly feel the lack of this boot-screen in your life. I know I did.

PS1 Gameshark discs work better on PS1 than PS2, so that's worth something.

or games like mortal kombat trilogy that crashes on the PS2

I like the mod chip idea. Also you can always just hook it up to another TV.

My PS2 refuses to switch to NTSC when I try to play an import PS1 game on it (with the swap trick). That alone is enough reason for me to keep my PS1 around.

I would rather modchip my PS2, but if they still make PSOne modchips and they were cheap I would consider. Would also make it more valuable to resell or trade in the future, if I ever wanted to.

Duh, you're using the swap trick. Sometimes music tracks don't even load properly because of that.

Playing import PS1 games on a PS2 is a pain in the neck.

Mod chip sounds good to me as well. I too have a modded PS1 (of three), but still don't use it. It's been modded to play imports as well (as I've been told; hasn't been tested on that subject). However, I have this fear of breaking it or over-stressing the laser on a PS2 if I were to go back and forth on PS1 and PS2 titles. It may just be my head, but I don't want to risk it. Right now I only have one PS1 game worth the while. But when my collection gets better, I'm deffinitely going to have to go with both, I think...

The Saturn had a better boot screen (especially the Japanese Saturn). What's more is that you could skip the damn thing. With the Playstation, you have to wait at least 30 seconds before the boot screen is finished doing it's thing.

This.

What you could do with the PSX, is donate to goodwill, and wait for some other sucker to buy it.

The PS1 doesn't hold much spinach dip, but it's much more remarkable than the standard bread bowl.

It makes a nice addition to any closet shelf.

I think the PSX looks ugly so I leave it in it's box.

Now that I have a PS2 I'm thinking I'm either going to put my PS1 away and let it just sit there forever, or I'll sell it.

Chances are, I'll keep it-- knowing me, if I sell it I'll come up with some crazy reason that it was a bad idea in around a year.

I have mine, gonna mod chip it and put it in a clear case. It deserves a clear case, maybe some LEDs.

If it's the little PSOne, get a screen for it, it's awesome. If you have a first generation PSX and a nice sound system, hook it up and use it as an audio CD player (seriously.) If it's neither of those...into the closet it goes.
