View Full Version : Idea for a Sega-CD memory reference chart...Help Wanted!

Hi all,

Since resuming my quest to collect every Sega-CD game released in the US (after a 10-year delay), I've recently purchased a CD Backup RAM cart (two actually) for use with saving all my game data.

I created the following chart and put it up on a temporary section of my site (not publicly accessible) while I work on finishing the page:

I just threw this page up quickly so far, so most of the chart remains largely undone, but I created it to help me keep track of which games I needed to transfer back and forth between the Backup RAM cart before playing.

Anyway, the point to all this is that I think once the chart is done it may be useful to the Sega fan community. I need your help, Sega fans! Even though I do own most of the Sega-CD games already (only about 30 left to get), I quickly discovered that it would take me a long time to finish this on my own, since I would get caught up playing each game for hours instead of quickly moving on to check the next one! If anyone wants to contribute to this effort, I would greatly appreciate it! Simply post any details for any game that is not already up there, and I will keep the list updated.

If you don't have a Backup RAM cart, no problem, just submit info for any other game that doesn't use it. Even the games that use no password or game save feature at all still need to be weeded out, I just haven't gotten to them yet. Please be as accurate as possible with the details you send since there is a chance that this chart, once finished, may be a permanent section of this site!

That's a pretty good idea! I'll contribute if I'm not too busy being lazy (it takes up a lot of my time).

I was just browsing about the boards and saw this relatively old thread.
I looked at the site and saw it hasn't been updated since April.
I think the table is clearly explained, especially regarding games running from external RAM. It's just the sort of info I've been looking for actually.

Can I suggest NHL 94?
I edited one team, by changing a player (just one player), and it saved it using 61 blocks which I thought is a bit much. This is on a MultiMega having about 124 blocks capacity. Is this the same capacity as an MCD1 and 2?

EDIT: I don't have a backup cart, but I'm assuming that the games on the table take the same amount of space on the internal RAM

Sonic CD can see a save file on the Back-Up RAM cart, but it cannot load or save directly to it. There is a utility within the game that lets you copy the save to the internal memory. Sonic CD's programmers were not smart enough to figure out how to load and save directly from the cart.

Great, I'll add it to the list! I've been doing other projects lately and have been letting that chart slide for a while without updating it...Oblivion for the 360 has been consuming much of my time lately, well, that and Street Fighter II HF that was just released on Live Arcade.

Yes, and that makes it very confusing how to use that utility for the first time, especially since the manual for the game says nothing of it.

Lunar 1 and 2 aren't the learest when it comes to the Back-Up Cart, either. It can be kind of confusing. Lunar 2 seems to still need the Sega CD Internal RAM if you use the Back-Up Cart. And it needs to save 4 files to each!
