If you plan on replacing capacitors, just replace them all to be safe. If some are starting to die, the others will all soon follow. On my model 1, there are 39 capacitors.

It would be nice if someone made an index of all the different kinds of capacitors on all the different kinds of MD/G models.

I'm working on one for VA3, VA5/VA6 and VA7 Genesis Model 1s. Hang tight; it might take a while.

A lot of them are 5V rated 10uf caps aren't they? (or at least 5V for most -I'd assume they used the minimum required; then a few higher rated ones like 16V I seem to recall)

Once I get around to it, I was planning on starting with the single moset common type and replacing all of those before moving on to anything else. (or getting lazy and stoping there if that solves all the problems :p -well that and putting in s-video and possibly overclocking to 12 MHz)

Actually, the most common types of capacitor on a Genesis motherboard that I've seen are 10uF 16V and 47uF 16V. The lowest voltage rating on a capacitor that I've seen in a Genesis is 6.3V, and that's for a 220uF capacitor.

Huh, do you know if the 16V was actually necessary? (I seem to remember TmEE mentioning that only ~2 caps in the audio circuit were 16V)

As long as you have the capacitors voltage rating higher than what the signals use, its all good. If you want to be super safe then buy a bucket of 50V caps and start replacing... only problem with those is that they're big :P

Think of it as a very good excuse to build a custom case for your Mega Drive.
