It's easy! Just flip your Saturn over and look for the center-most label. Both Model 1 and 2 units quite clearly state the month and year that unit was manufactured in.

That pic is of my Model 1 Saturn, it was manufactured in August, 1995 as seen.

My Model 2 Saturn was produced in July, 1996 but I don't have a pic of that.

How about the rest of you?

My main Saturn was manufactured September of '96.

My Extra Saturn (which JackieBogard wanted, maybe still wants to buy?) is August of '96.

Both are Model 2s.

You so called Sega fans can put your stale manufacture dates away. I'd bought mine in May of 1995. :p

Neither does my aussie one. It just says "Caution do not open, dangerous voltage inside"

I'm impressed Sega found a way to make Saturns always have a dangerous voltage inside; an infinite source of energy and it hasn't been harnessed yet!

Mine is June 1996... So I guess that makes it a Model 2.... What's the difference between Model 1 and 2?

Outwardly, the model 1 has oval power and reset buttons, he model 2 has round.

There are numerous other differences but that's the easy way to tell.

Probably because we have 240v over here whilst the Americans have girly 110v?

I do have a US model for spare parts, my Aussie Saturn is a model 2 with the US top cover on it. I guess I could look on the bottom of the US one and post that up.

Guess i'm the only one with an import Saturn.

Translucent Promotional model for ASCII's horse racing sim, Derby Stallion.

Shares its design with 'Model 2' Saturn's.

Exported en mass to Europe and the USA.

This is so weird. I'm extremely certain my model 1 was never tampered with. It reads April 1996. Interesting stuff.

Oh god, you just brought back horrible memories..........

Back around February 2002 I, being the extremely spoilt teenage brat that I was, walked around the Bronx to do some game shopping w/ a whole lot of money at hand (oblivious to the possibility of being robbed or jumped). I stumbled upon this store which was selling a BRAND-NEW Derby Stallion Saturn, w/4 import games (Shining Force III Scenario 3, Wachenroder, Winning Nine '98 and some J-League soccer game), along with an SS Majoris programmable pad (with some neato steering wheel ring around the d-pad), all for $120. I immediately snatched it up, even though I wasn't out planning to buy a friggin' Saturn.

Once I took it home, I pretty much kept it in my closet, unused and untampered for the next couple of years, treating it as my "Holy Grail" and promising to sell it for big money years down the line. (I used to be a HUGE hoarder and rare stuff collector, but have since learned my lesson). Fast forward to January 2006. I was running out of room in my bedroom, and decided to sell or get rid of everything that wasn't absolutely necessary. For me, that was all of my non-CD consoles and games (because I'd long been emulating them by that point), and the Derby Stallion Saturn, as I never went about buying and collecting for the Saturn as I had intended. I headed to the infamous "VideoGamesNewYork" store to see how much I'd get for all of my stuff. After making the mistake of telling the staff that my Saturn had been opeend before (yet NEVER played or plugged in; I was just checking to see if everything was intact), they offered me just $30 for it. Being short on money and space (and common sense), I took their offer. Along with everything else, I got about $230 for selling off about 95% of my video game collection.

I didn't regret much of it (though I had several uncommon/rare SNES games, such as "Mega Man X3", which I could've gotten more out of separately), but selling that beauty, virtually brand-new, for just $30 was my biggest video game regret of the decade..........and EVER, period. I bet they flipped that sucker for 4-5X more than they gave me for it.

Videogames New York is bullshit, their prices are ridiculously high.

You've been there???

Yes, a lot of their stuff is overpriced, but you can get some good deals on common stuff if you look around carefully. Otherwise, they're a really nice store to look at.

I saw their stand at VGXPO. I'd love to pay $35 for a copy of Diddy Kong Racing DS, or $40 for Japanese Pokemon Gold.

It's more like 10x what they paid you. They only made about 5,000 of those, and the Derby Stallion Saturn is highly collectable.

October 1996. Mine is definitely a Model 2 with the round buttons.

I really need to find more games for it. :|
