Has the rainbow banding issues gone away for anyone that has done a full cap job?

Parts are ordered. Gonna give my old MD2 a recap soon to get rid of that buzzing and hissing discussed here recently. Wish me luck!Code:10µF 16V x 19 47µF 10V x 5 47µF 16V x 2 100µF 10V x 2 220µF 6.3V x 2 220µF 16V x 1![]()
you can put the same capitance ones into same pot, just use the higher voltage ones so nothing would blow up.

My VA3 has the worst rainbow banding of my 5 model 1s. It has Chhsi caps.
I have 2 VA6 models with rubycons that have little to no rainbow banding. I also have a VA6 with Chhsi that has little to no rainbow banding. I have VA6 with rubycons that is almost as bad as my VA3 with Chhsi. So, it appears to be all over the place when it comes to which caps = more rainbow banding.
Wow, super helpful! My VA2 isn't showing any problems yet, but I hear the capacitors in those early models are horribly cheap!

Hi. I just bought used Sega Mega Drive model 1 ( pcb type is written as IC BD M5 PAL ). I am planning to change all the capacitors ( and perhaps doing the infamous S-Video / Composite mod ).
Can I use the capacitors list in this thread to my pcb ? Thanks in advance![]()
You need to figure out which board revision you have. I would then still ID each cap because there may be differences even among the same revision.
I am totally newbie on this matters. How to figure out the board revision ? I am only see the IC BD M5 PAL word in it that worth mentioning![]()
I just replaced most of the caps on my Japanese VA1 Mega Drive as it was having rainbow banding issues through composite and slight audio issues. The rainbow banding has mostly been eliminated and the audio is slightly better, though it should improve further once I replace the remaining original caps. With that said, here's a list of caps on the VA1 Mega Drive:
The capacitors were mostly Unicon, who seem to be fairly reputable; I think the caps just dried out due to age as none of the caps I replaced had leaked in any way.Code:Label Voltage Rating (V) Capacitance (uF) ---------------------------- C1 16 220 C13 16 10 C23 10 100 C24 10 100 C30 16 10 C31 16 10 C32 10 100 C38 16 10 C4 10 100 C40 50 1 C41 16 10 C42 50 1 C43 16 10 C44 50 1 C49 10 100 C5 16 10 C50 10 220 C51 10 220 C52 10 100 C53 10 100 C55 16 10 C57 16 10 C58 50 1 C59 10 47 C60 10 47 C61 50 1 C62 50 1 C63 10 47 C64 16 10 C65 10 47 C66 10 47 C67 10 47 C68 10 47 C71 16 10 C72 16 10 C74 10 100 C79 16 100 JP1 10 47

Do you think a capacitor replacement could improve the jail bars? All my MegaDrives have jail bars in RGB. This included Mega Drive MK1, MK2, and Genesis 3. Ive tried them on various TVs
Nice Guide + rep from me
and also there was a dead link (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OK27GPFZ)
Best thing you can do to remove jailbars is send your rgb through a 32x (I don't know why this works). If you don't want to use a 32x you can try to find a way to filter out the jailbars. Before I got my 32x I was filtering jailbars by adding a 12 foot s-video cable branching off and connecting to nothing. I don't know why this worked but it does. Here's a before and after screenshot, the only difference is the after screenshot has a 12 foot s-video cable branching off and connecting to nothing.
ghetto filter ftw! I wish I could find a better solution than having 12 feet of s-video cable branch off and connect to nothing but all my other efforts didn't give me the same results.
Why am I under the impression that sega almost in way used components blindly especially in the audio circuitry?
