    arcade Atomic Runner

Data East may no longer be around as an actual company (though you can still play some of their arcade classics on the Wii via the Data East Arcade Collection on the Wii this month), the games will live forever, especially its competent arcade ports on the Genesis. Atomic Runner was one coin-op favorite to make the jump, and it's a fun little run-'n-gun with some lush visuals and large bosses. Read our full review and see if this one's worth checking out.

About two years ago, I picked this up out of curiosity for $5. It was really difficult but I persevered and eventually beat it (not on the hardest difficulty though). It doesn't look great (excellent detail, 'splosions, and speed but somewhat drab colors) and the constant running does lead to some cheap deaths, but I appreciate this game as an underrated run n' gun.

Seems like SEGA consoles have always been great homes for arcade ports.

Difficulty moderate? Maybe it's just me, but I found the game to be relentlessly hard!

True, after you get a hang of the controls (what with the nonstop running at all) it gets a bit easier, but nevertheless.

This is one of those games I always wanted, but never got around to tracking down. I may hit ebay this weekend and see if I can find a copy.

Yeah this is relentlessly hard. I don't really care for the turning around function either, seems like no matter which way you're facing you're bound to get pwnd by something from behind. Frustrating as hell and the one hit kills don't really help. Though I agree about the graphics and I could see why people would like this game.

Atomic Runner sounds like my cup of tea!

I've added it to The List.

    Thanks for the solid heads-up!

This game used to remind me so much of Strider. I like it. =)

A coworker of mine just randomly picked this game up for me at a garage sale for $1. Reading the review and looking at a YouTube video for it I'm impressed, and looking forward to popping it into the system later this evening!

This game is aiigh...I hate how you can't go backwards.

The developers tried to do something different, but it didn't do much for me.
