Default Got a couple of semi-broken Game Gears

I haven't opened up either to look inside yet.

One has the classic no sound problem, from both the speaker and the headphones. I suspect it would be a simple case of replacing the capacitors.

The other, will not power on at all. My question is about this one. What are the likely causes of a complete failure to even power on? Does this automatically mean this system is only good for parts now, or is there a fix for it? I'm assuming you could replace the power supply if that was the problem? Is that worth the effort? Any ideas?

Try replacing the caps first, a good portion of faulty Game Gears are just simply a capacitor replacement.

I have a few Game Gears that turn on for about 1 second than shut right off. I'm pretty sure that's the caps too. Damn crappy caps!

I'll bet the one that won't turn on at all has a bad power regulator.

As suspected, a replacement of a capacitor for the audio worked for that one.

The other, I haven't replaced anything yet. But I noticed that something had been knocked loose in it, although I'm not sure what it is exactly or if it can be replaced. It's this thing, circled in red:
