    Default Sega 1 AV Cable

I bought a cable from ebay last year, and it's complete junk... It comes in black and white, if I jiggle it, it comes in color sometimes... I'm fed up, rather then spend and waste more money on ebay, does anyone know a decent av-cable? Or where I could get one.

I read about the people who did the scart conversion to rgb etc... I think I'm going to do this down the road, but I don't want to spend close to 100 bucks for this yet.

Also, does anyone mod genesis's on the side? Or know someone that does?

It sounds more like a problem with your AV port than the actual cable. Have you tried other AV cables?

I tried on 3 different systems, all the same.

Then it's definitely your AV cable in that case. If your TV has component inputs, you can get a SCART cable for your Genesis (make sure it has RGB lines, as some SCART cables are composite only), and then a SCART-to-component converter. This will give you the best possible picture out of the Genesis aside from using an RGB monitor.

My TV has Component inputs, roughly how much did you spend for the scart setup?

The adapters tend to cost $30-40, plus the SCAR cable tends to be about another $15.

As for you cable, that sound really odd. The only thing that might make sense is too high resistance as that will kill the color signal but leave luma (b/w).

Does the color show up when you wiggle the whole cable, or just jiggle the connector? (if just the connector, it could be a bad solder joint)

If it is a bad solder joint and the plug can be opened up without tearing it apart, reflowing the solder show fix the problem. (very limited soldering skills required) If it doesn't pop apart (no tab), you might want to try cutting it apart anyway (if it's junk otherwise) and fixing it. (and repacking with electrical tape)

BTW, does the cable have 5 pins on it?
