    Default Retromags.com

is so fucking awesome I can't believe it.

FINALLY I can get my digital hands on all of those old GamePros that slipped through my fingers over the years. Seriously, everyone needs to read that magazine, it was unbelievably good back in the day. It's sort of funny to see some shitbomb games like Pit Fighter get spectacular reviews just because they graphics were innovative for the time.

    I love this site.

When EGM died (what was that a year ago?) I downloaded pretty much all of the old ones from here. Now all they need are more issues of Game Players and Next Generation

http://outofprintarchive.com/ << Here's the other site, this one has less content but the scanners focus more on quality.

I wish they'd scan Gamesmaster and more CVG, two of the finest publications in the UK (till they sold out during the Playstation era, but even then they were an amusing read). I always felt that US magazines were brochures with brief editorials in-between, but the UK mags shone greatly in comparison. Even the snapshots were usually taken with greater care.

I've been praising the gods of Retromags for ages now you ninnies!!!

Speaking of outofprintarchive, they were recently bought out by Retromags, and their library is being consolidated with the latter site.

What we need is 3 big torrents, one for the gamepro's, one for the EGM's, and one for the rest.

Are there any OPM downloads on that site? If there are I can finally get rid of the copies in my closet.

Focus more on quality? the quality is amazing with all of the scans I've seen. I mean, you'll see where the crease was on some pages as apparently they didn't pull the magazines apart, but most of the time I forget I'm looking at scans rather than the original master.

What UK magazines do you think were "vastly superior" to US magazines? I like GamePro largely for its über early 90's day glo aesthetic, but I'd like to know what you're talking about with these "superior" UK magazines.

huh? Megaupload is the one site I've never had an issue with.

To everyone else: I highly recommend the CBR format over the PDF. PDF is a huge resource whore and lags even on fast computers when dealing with hi-res images. Also, if you want a consistent format, some of the magazines are not available in PDF. The best part is that it is designed for comic book viewing so you can view both pages at the same time as it was meant to be (awesome for 2 page ads) and zoom in as needed. I use Simple Comic for Mac OS X and it's a great free/simple program to use to view the pages. If you want to use Simple Comic, let me stress the option+right/left arrow key function that lets you shift one page to the left or right if the compiler didn't put the cover page on its own page (also, sometimes fold out ads and such will shift the page count off).

Edge for one, also the Official Sega Megadrive, Saturn and Dreamcast magazines were essentially unparalled in the US. Don't get me wrong I didn't say the likes of GamePro were rubbish, in fact I did collect them back in the day and they were quite informative. One edge EGM had over its multiplat UK counterparts was its extensive coverage of Japanese gaming, but I never liked their review format.

And yes CBR>PDF. I use ComicRack for Windows.

We must be looking for different things, though, as I downloaded a copy of CVG and I was appalled at the buckets and buckets of tedious tiny text and clusterfuck layout. That's one thing GamePro did like no other: layout. Finding the system and article-type was cake in those magazines. The reviews themselves were mostly informal but quick and to the point. All you really needed was the pictures and the review block with the classic sad->happy faces depicting the 1-5 value of the game. IMO, GamePro is just perfection, I can't see any magazine doing it better.
