Default semi-old school sonic, ying for some!

    http://www.gamersmark.com/news/2006/05/1/7825

I personally liked the old sonic with no "bird guy" or "bunny girl", only the real sonic with knuckles and tails as optional players (not sure if they're included )

    any opinions???

(not sure what to get for christmas now, Wii or sega CD )

It's just starting to look more like the XTREME-ridden Adventure games.

Sega keeps saying they're "getting back to their roots" with the new Sonic game and I just don't see it. It's a prettier looking Sonic Adventure so long. I may, and I hope I'm wrong.

On a positive note, it's about time for Sega to have finally wised up and dropped all the useless characters that the franchise has accumuluated over the years, especially in the recent post Adventure era. Will this finally be a Sonic game where I can play Sonic for more than 1/6 of the game?

Also I'm glad they're no longer using the god awful shoes from Sonic Adventure 2 and have the more classic design. I know I'm pulling at strings here but that kind of thing bugged me.

In my mind Rush is probably more "old-school" than this game will be even though it's done in Adventure style. The screenshots of this game really reveal it to have the same gameplay as the Adventure series so far and even if they use older yet suped-up designs and only Sonic as the playable character it's still going to play like the newer games.

Games like Sonic Rush and New Super Mario Brothers have given me new hope about the resurgence of "old-school" platform gaming however.

I liked all the alternative characters. Someone say with a straight face playing as S, T or K only for fifteen years wouldn't get boring. But, as usual, 'REAL SONIC FANS' abandoned all hope for the franchise ten years ago and so all new games are terrible and X-REEEEEME and stupid, right?

    Their loss, I guess.

It's not that I hate all of the other characters, it's just about time that Sega made another Sonic game about Sonic and I guess it's what the fans have been crying for since the release of Sonic Adventure 2 and it's finally being heeded. I'm hoping this title will be great, but at the moment I'm a little cautious. It's one of the many things I'm looking foreward to getting the scoop about from E3.

Sega really surprised the heck out of me with Rush. I'm more than willing to believe they can do it again.

Personally I loved Sonic Adventure. Sonic Rush? It's OK. I prefer Sonic Adventure. I am curious to see how the next-gen Sonic turns out. Hopefully more like Sonic Adventure and less like Sonic Adventure 2, or perhaps something better than both!

I agree that Sonic Adventure was the best attempt at 3D-izing the series. In my opinion the others were a step backward. I really wanted to like Adventure 2 but I just couldn't enjoy it. I've played through Sonic Adventure several times but I was never able to bring myself to finish 2.

Sonic Rush could've been a bit longer but I guess they're saving that for the inevitable sequel. I know I've been singing its praises a lot around here and I'm trying to stop but I guess I just enjoyed it that much that the little fanboy voice inside my head won't shut up.

The thing is, neither Rush nor the Advance games were actually developed by Sega. They were made by ex-SNK employees.

Well, Rush in particular actually had some Sonic Team involvement. While the Advance series were almost completely developed by Dimps, Rush had several Sonic Team employees in the credits.

I hope this new one is a far cry from Sonic Adventure. Sonic is ill-suited to adventure games; he should be in purely level-based platformers. Sonic shouldn't be running around a 'realistic' city with normal human inhabitants and no enemies, and then somehow going down this way makes the game load up an Action Stage. Sonic Adventure had far, far too much bullshit in it and I don't think I can handle something like that again.

The fact that they licensed the Havok engine doesn't sound encouraging.

Really? I didn't hear about that and now that I have I don't like the sound of it.

Physics were a strong point in the original Sonic series, I don't see what's so bad about it. Though Meqon would probably be a better choice.

I don't really want them to get rid of the auxilliary characters completely - I just wish you could choose who you want to play as. That way we could do the whole thing as Sonic if we wanted to.

Yeah, but they were platformer physics, not FPS physics.

It's an engine. It can be tweaked to an incredible extent.
