    Default Donkey Kong for Genesis/MD

Got your attention. See how excited you were to read this thread's title? That's my point:

I am frustrated by the lack of development for the Sega 16 bit systems. I really enjoyed Paul Lee's Berzerk port, and it makes me long for similar accessible games.

A new game doesn't need to be on the level of Sonic. I would love to see Donkey Kong, and I am willing to commission such a project. Look at all the development for NES and other systems. Just because the Genesis is capable of more doesn't mean single screen platform games wouldn't be enjoyable. Maybe Popeye.

    Anyone up for the task?

Sort of like going for groceries in a Ferrari, isn't it? You could do it, but why? We have things like Pier Solar on the cusp.

Eh, kinda arrogant to go around telling people that there's nothing stopping them from making games you want to see. Do it yourself.

Edit: Let me add to this so I don't come off completely as a jerk without reason, but I doubt anyone on a forum that wants to commission a game they'd like to play can afford to pay out any developer enough money to make it worth their time to port the whole thing to another console. Just generally not well received when you make it appear as though it's a trivial task that just requires someone that will pay :X

Beggar Prince was released in 2006.
Legend of Wukong was released in 2008.
Another new RPG will be released this year, by the same company.

There have also been several fan demos / games released in recent times, one of the more notable being the Pringles game developed in Japan.

Yeah, I kind of like the idea of updating some early-80s games to have Genesis-style graphics and sound, maybe even new gameplay variations as well. I mean they put Ms. Pac-Man on it, didn't they?

To be interesting as a homebrew though it would have to be more than just a straight port of the game in my opinion.

    Nooo, don't do it!

I played through that for ages, and there was a part I could never get past (in one of those industrial type levels). I gave up eventually, assuming it was just poor level design. (Of course, it was probably just me being crap wasn't it :P)

If I remember right, the game actually is unfinishable, due to incomplete programming. This is actually fairly common practice with smaller Taiwanese outfits. For example, a good number of games for the Supervision handheld are unfinishable, only allowing the player to progress so far before there just... isn't any more stage data.

In the case of this particular game it may have been some sort of copy protection thing that keeps the game from being beaten, perhaps some code snippets left over from when the game was dumped and pirated - but I doubt it.

heart Did someone say lack of development for the Mega Drive?

Pier Solar and the Great Architects - the first brand new RPG for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive since 1996. Is currently under testing and debugging, and planned to be released soon.

Buy stuff at the Magical Game Factory, WaterMelon's crowd funding video game development site!

Do YOU have any games you want to get rid of that haven't been reviewed on the site and needs to be beaten for the sake of this project? Send 'em to me and I'll review and beat them! I'll pay for shipping of course. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.
