Default broken model 2 reset button

repost over here since they said to ask here when i posted this on the genesis forum. I did a search but the only thread i found was one that quickly got derailed by talk of NES top loaders =P

my genesis model 2 reset button doesn't work. Any ideas on how to fix it? I noticed someone said they actually soldered some new switch in place, im looking for an easier fix than that. It looks like its still in one piece. theres the little blue reset rubber nub, and the stick going down seems fine. I dont know if its just not reaching it or if the switch itself isn't working. Are there any easy fixes, or do i have to break it off and put a whole new one in? (i dont even know where to get the switches or how to go about that so i hope not)

*edit* the switch itself seems busted, i just tested it by pushing on the little blue rubber thing directly and it would not reset*

so what can i do to fix this? Its kinda a bit annoying, but its a problem for some things like x men

could be the rubber itself? last time i've opened a md2 was years ago, so i don't remember it so much.. can be the rubber removed without damage it? you should check if rubber, or contacts underneath are dirty/dusty (just like buttons on controllers)

you can remove the grey plastic :

don't remove it entirely! it's a pain to set it back

clean the contact with alcohol and try again

my reset button didn't work properly i did this and now it works very well

im not sure what you are asking to remove.. grey contact? do you mean the entire blue rubber piece? it doesn't look like it comes up. Can you be a bit more specific?

im asuming this is like controllers where theres a rubber pice that goes down onto an electronic board when you push it, but the rubber piece doesn't lift up

well i pried the top half of the rubber up and got under there with a q tip. Problem is i simply can not put the top half back down. No matter what angle i go in or mess with it simply will NOT go back and stay into place. now i have a half in half out rubber button.

wtf.. how are you suspoed to lock it in place? I Tested it with it half off and it seems to reset if i push down on it, so need to get it back in place, or just rip the whole thing out and replace it with something

    help?

it shouldn't be impossible to get back in, but it will be difficult. dont give up.

he did say not to take it out completly though... lesson for next time huh ^^

i would use a few flat jewelers screw drivers to get it back in... kind of like putting in a wwindshield (using cord, or in your case fishing line) or like prying on a new tyre, using flat bits of whatever.

its rubber so it shouldn't be impossible.

You need to remit it i know it's very difficult (i did the mistake to remove it entirely this took me 3 hours to remit it entirely)

so don't give up take your time and you will success

seriously you can replace it easily with a tactile switch, so easy to do. The ones I get have to little "nubs" on the bottom that I trim off flat, remove the old one and solder in the new one. Piece of piss

i didn't take it out completely, just the top half of it.. but even that was damn near impossible to get it back in. I finally got it in.. kinda. It doesn't feel like its totally in all the way, but the thing kinda resets. If i push really hard on the side =P I guess it works for now

i may try the tactile switch thing down the road. Wouldn't that mean that i take the actual reset button off though?
