Default Weird: Landstalker and Sonic & Knuckles

Instead of going to a blue sphere stage, plugging Landstalker into Sonic & Knuckles simply makes S&K boot normally . . . Weird.

Are there any other games like that, and is it even all versions of Landstalker that do?

It's rather simple in fact. On startup, S&K looks for a valid Sega header above $200000:

    - a game smaller than 2MB will return a valid header because of data mirroring.
    - a game larger than 2MB or a game with SRAM mapped in that memory area (like Landstalker do) will return unexpected data.

If S&K does not found a valid header it assumes there is no cartridge connected and boots himself normally.

Weird: Landstalker and Sonic & Knuckles

Shoot, I was hoping this thread would reveal that you can use Knuckles as a character in Landstalker, climbing walls, floating around and finding new areas.

I don't think there's anything left to uncover in retail ROMs. Maybe if drx unearths another important beta.. but I think the mystery factor is hardly there anymore.

Sonic "3D" was dodgy enough, but I'm sure Knuckles + isometrics would reveal many more new and fun ways to kill yourself accidentally.

Lol. That's not a "thing" per se. Hahaha. It happens with virtually any cart you plug into SnKs (including another SnKs cart lol). The most likely scenario is that your SnKs cart receiver on top is dirty. Clean it up using TmEE's method (credit card plus thin tissue in some kind of solvent). You'll see what I mean.

P.S.> This happened to me just two days ago, trying to play Sonic 3 n Knuckles.

Hmm, I wonder why Sonic 3D didn't have Lock-on abilities. Even though the game was bland, it would still have been neat to see lock-on work again

    I like 3D blast OK... But I don't see it meriting lock-on.

Virtua Racing really could have used lock-on though, for an entirely different reason.
