Perfect Bonus - Sonic 2?

I was getting bored while on the road (passenger), and I whipped out the totally awesome built in sound remixing Gopher (/sarcasm), and played Sonic 2.

At Emerald Hill zone 2, I beat the boss, and got a "Perfect Bonus". I have NEVER seen that before, and it's a ROM I dumped from my own cartridge. What the hell is that?

A "Perfect Bonus" means you totally nerded it up and got ALL the rings in the Act. I applaud you, sir!

Ha, I wasn't even aware this was possible...I swear I can be right in the middle of the ring lane and strangely one of the rings won't get picked up. If you can do this the game might as well end and say that you've won.

I didn't even know they offered that bonus in Sonic 2. I thought they did in Sonic 3, but not too long ago I attempted to collect all the rings in Angel Island act 1 and got zip. I'm sure I got 'em all too.

I used to make up my own goals for playing Sonic and I was surprised to see that at least Sonic 2 gave you points for some of those.

I'm going to brag here and declare I've got the perfect bonus in Emerald Hill 1 & 2, Chemical Plant 1 & 2, Aquatic Ruin 1 & 2 and Mystic Cave 1 & 2.

(My Gopher outputs PAL and my PVM is NTSC only sadly, so it's black and white..)

They show several clips of perfect bonuses on YouTube, but I've mostly found ones of Knuckles in Sonic 2 and some proposed Sonic 2 levels that didn't make the final cut.

But yes, I had no clue that they offered a 50K point bonus if you collect all the rings in a level. I know they did on the Sonic 3 bonus stages though, but certainly not on Sonic 2 & 3 regular levels.
